Needs a menu link.

Yeah I think a menu link would be much easier than selecting to be notified each time.

Q: Is it possible (and worth it) to run a CPU miner like minerd & a GPU miner like CGminer at the same time on the same machine.
I would guess the benefit would be using the GPU and CPU at the same time.
Thoughts?

i mine both on my CPU (minerd) and GPU (cgminer), however be aware that if you use all the cores/threads of cpu you might get a reduction in cgminer perfomance.
for instance when i ran 100% cpu power on minerd my rigs went down from producing total of 6000khash to about 5000khash.
I fixed this by using only 6 of 8 threads (i7) and 2 of 3 cores in my AMD cpu. This way i only use about 70-80% off total cpu usage, leaving some for cgminer to performe optimal.

probably orphan

Terrible if it was, that’s the sort of disheartening happening that forces people away from mining ^^;
Possibly, possibly not. Don’t carve my name in for anything quite yet. I’m still trying to work out all the niggles and see what’s what.
I’m by no means confident in my setup yet.
Edit/Update 16/05/2013:
Rather than bump this thread up (as I don’t want to :P) I’ll edit in an update.
I’ve had P2Pool working fine and stable now, understand what I need to do to get it running but… It’s just going to prove too much hassle for me to upkeep and maintain.
Yes it’s a little project and I’ve learned a little more about what it’ll require to be a pool operator and maintain such. Of which, kudos to those who run pools for us all, it’s much more work than it seems!

I’d also suggest encrypting it if you’re going to store it on dropbox.

Exactly as I do, the only problem then is it is no longer a ‘live’ backup… Well, unless store a small truecrypt archive in dropbox, which is mounted as a drive, and then has the wallet symlinked from %appdata% to the truecrypt drive.
I think the problem I had was I was trading with Bitcoins on Gox even though I had not transferred money via the UK to them, they don’t seem to like the fact you may want to take money out via them if they don’t see you putting it in via them. Fair enough I suppose, but still a form of centralisation in my book.
I contacted support and they said my account had been flagged, but no reason was given? Even though I did not break any daily or monthly amounts that they state as limits for unverified accounts.
It’s not that you won’t get your money back, it all got sorted in the end, it’s just a PITA having to verify yourself, especially if you find out the day after you have thrown away the only monthly utility bill that is in your name, like I did :’(
Oh, you can. You can’t crossfire them together but you can use them both individually in your system.
As the cards are both new series cares (7xxx) you’ll have no problems what so ever using them in the same system without installing any other drivers.
5xxx, 6xxx, 7xxx cards can be used simultaneously in the same system using one of the newer ATI catalysts, I believe from around 12.8 onwards 7xxx cards were supported.
Where you will encounter issues is when you want to use a ‘legacy’ card in your system at the same time as a newer card. 4xxx cards and below are now known as ‘legacy’ and require their own drivers. Which, in turn, is known to cause conflict with the newer drivers.
Well from reading here:
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Bitcoind#Running
and a little general knowledge about daemons.
I’m “guessing” that having the daemon on just means it’ll shove feathercoind into a service. Most likely irrelevant for you and I though.
And the port can be whatever you want as far as I know, I used this as my .conf when I was solo mining for a little while:
rpcuser=ShadowEW
rpcpassword=password
rpcallowip=127.0.0.1
rpcport=9332
daemon=1
server=1
gen=0
But, I’ve not encountered any stability issues using Windows 8 and feathercoin-qt. x:
Edit: Unless I’m just skim reading too quickly, the documentation for Feathercoin(-qt) isn’t too helpful either. https://github.com/FeatherCoin/FeatherCoin/tree/master/doc

Due to the sudden influx of interest in FTC/BTC/LTC/Other digital currencies cgminer has stood proud as THE miner to use, and due to this gain in popularity the host is being hit bigtime with large volumes of traffic. ( ck.kolivas.org/apps/cgminer/‎ has been down for 24 hours now )
Likewise again with the miner hosted on this site (or rather, through this site). Google and many other filesharing sites (Dropbox included) get picky when they notice high volumes of traffic on ‘free’ files on their servers.
You can either wait it out, or take the risk of a miner hosted elsewhere.
Once the kolivas site goes back up I intend to clone it and most likely host it through dropbox or another such site. Yes it’s probably deemed as unnecessary load, but having access to local copies of the clients has already helped me and a few friends.
Download the latest client from the page linked in below. It has a network fix for clients that cannot find the network.

On your router settings, try to find/search for “anonymous browsing” or something like that and enabled it.
You must be log-on as admin to find that
Hope it helps
