The code should be ready to roll tomorrow if everything goes well. Then we should look at a weeks notice before we hit the next difficulty which will give us 41.4% more coins to mine without bringing back the miners in mass. Personally I’m looking forward to being able to mine those coins without everyone else mining them before me. I’m mining against what I believe this coins will be worth in the future just like when I used to mine Litecoin for what I thought it would be worth in the future.

I was mining Litecoin when I thought it would one day be worth $1 :)

          Quick questions:
          a) What have been the modifications?
          b) After which block become this modifications active?

The only issue I see is the fact that we would be betting on the fickle miners treating it as a dead coin while the believers scoop up a nice chunk. It’s not an unreasonable forecast, but there’s going to be more waves of people leaving BTC.

I’ll make a demo program of my algorithm. At the very least, perhaps we can include it as future code that can be switched on via a command option.

Absolutely brilliant bush! I must admit the original (although incorrect) 21’ish difficulty estimate on the stats page seemed more worrying than the estimated 22 day wait :D

I was mining Litecoin when I didn’t have a clue what they would be worth, all I knew was my electricity bill was increasing greatly, but I sold them all @ circa $4 - $5, well I exchanged for BTC, and now I’m propping up FTC both mining and purchasing, except with slightly more knowledge of where we are heading.

Looking forward to the future of our Feather! 8)

I am in favour of having a solution that protects against large mining power swings. We would be better off doing it know than after one year from now. On the other hand, rushing fundamental changes into the software can lead to problems as well (see BTC lately).

I think part of the problem is using block to count until next difficulty change - why not use time. Or would that mess up the coin limit/generation rate.

                        Why not a mixed ?
I mean the first between 2016 Blocks and X days, Would this prevent this kind of situation ?

That’s a fair point while I don’t understand the reason myself, how would it be made secure? Time can be altered (well it can’t, but it can :)) - I suppose we would need some sort of timezone setting EG: CST crypto-time-standard too that the network adhered too otherwise UTC/EST/GMT/EDT etc would all get their difficulty changes at different times.
But like I say I don’t know the reason why not…

A newly generated block gets its time from the median time of connected nodes. It is possible to have a new block with a time before the previous block. If you base the difficulty on the network time is could be exploited to change the difficulty.

Isn’t NTP based on what I guess is considered the source of all network time? Would it be able to get its time from that?

From what I can gather, it is easy to set time wherever you want to, ie: In the future or past etc.
I know many years ago those 30 day software trials used to last forever :D

How will this fork work? Will we still have to reach the current retarget, or will it be split?
I am asking because expected block and retarget times are growing and growing :-\

Ah…the good ole days of internet!

When my eMachines Desktop w/ Celeron 333Mhz CPU, 128Mb of RAM and an 80Gb HDD was plenty enough for the entire family! Difficult to imagine now.

I still have a *working* laptop that has a 4GB HDD, 32 MB of ram (I think, maybe less), and not even sure what CPU it has. It’s from when laptops were still the new thing.
