Block 33,000 is listed as an orphan block as someone forced another block 33,000 on with a mean vanity address.

I am starting to believe we are not alone (Aliens), or in the existence of Quantum computers ;D

Are you going to investigate this further? Would be quite interesting.

        (1) How can one orphan the chain at the exact time block 33,000 is due?

        (2) Which resources does one need to create address 6pFeathercoinSucksCBTuauhTGi8cdDCV ?

I’m concerned that the blockchain was apparently hacked with block 33,000 and 33,001. If it was simple vandalism that isn’t going to have far reaching effects. However, if something more devious occurred I don’t want to see FTC harmed as a result.

Can it be confirmed that there wasn’t any double spending or extra coin generation?
Might there be some fallout from the event that will cause FTC to be viewed as insecure?

Some official response to the event seems appropriate.

                Why was it apparently hacked?
BTC has several orphans everyday, is that being hacked?
Why would anyone want to double spend a currency that is hard enough to single spend (IE: With little value and no real merchant acceptance?)
It’s as secure as Satoshi intended, still.

There is nothing new here, we have seen these attacks several coins over time including ours. The best solution is to grow too large for these guys to have an impact on us like making blocks orphans.

I am still gathering information on what happened and intend to post something about it all.

Thank you for looking into it. Maybe I’m too new to crypto that I haven’t seen this happen, only heard about it.

I look forward to your findings, keep up the excellent work.

I am trying to find the exact calculation for it, but Rough back of the napkin calculation is that he wouild need to take one of the big BTC pools, and start mining the FTC Vanity address around the time Rome was founded to have any chance at all of coming up with that address.

ohh, and that was using hashpower from BTCGuild (30TH/s) which I think is a little more than Nero could have his millions of slaves do on an abacus.

Indeed. If someone can generate that vanity address then the Tor network should be worried. You can already GPU mine Tor vanity addresses, manage to pool resource and you can shave down the millennia required to produce a full address. I’ve not really looked into Tor address mining but I undertand they use 80-bit addresses in base 32 which would work out to 256-bit in base 10 I believe.

Looks like they gave 1btc to the block finder and split the rest out between miners who contributed, fair way to do it :)

When did they start to send the rewards; I am minning there, and was minning with 1000+ k/hs during the 30.000 block and have not received anything…
