I wonder how GeForce Titan Z ($3000 monster) will perform in terms of watts/performance.
There’s expensive PC hardware, and then there’s this: Nvidia just announced the GeForce Titan Z graphics card, a $3,000 monster that essentially slaps together a pair of high-end graphics processing units (GPU) to create something that’s incredibly powerful, but only attainable by a lucky few, Maximum PC reports.
Nvidia CEO Jen-Hsun Huang made the announcement today at the company’s yearly GPU Technology Conference. Powered by a pair of Kepler GPUs, 12GB of RAM, and 5,760 processing cores, it will most likely require some overly elaborate cooling system to prevent it from melting your PC. According to Nvidia, “Unlike traditional dual-GPU cards, Titan Z’s twin GPUs are tuned to run at the same clock speed, and with dynamic power balancing,†which means that neither GPU creates a performance bottleneck.
Though it’s unclear what speed the Titan Z GPUs will run at, the Titan Black, which uses the same Kepler GPU has a rated clock speed of 889Mhz. To give you an idea of what the Titan Z’s performance could be like, the $1,000 Titan Black â€" a beast in its own right â€" has half the RAM and processing cores. Think: Two Titan Black cards, functioning as one.
Instead of focusing on technologies that are on the verge of entering the mainstream, like 4K, Nvidia says the Titan Z is designed with next-generation 5K in mind, along with multi-monitor gaming.
“If you’re in desperate need of a supercomputer that you need to fit under your desk, we have just the card for you,†Huang said. Indeed, if you’re going to build a supercomputer, a Titan Z surely isn’t a bad component to start with, assuming you’ve got the cash for it.
What do you think of the Nvidia GeForce Titan Z? Is $3,000 too much to spend on a graphics card? What’s the most you would spend on one? Sound off in the comments below.

It’s Keplar, so I expect it to be juice hungry.

I really want to like this card, but I just can’t be f*cked building twice the amount of rigs…

Gotta hope that the rest of the maxwell lineup continues the trend.
-
Anyone heard any more talk about BAMT and Pci-e splitter support?

I’m sure a lot of people will be watching closely, they better hurry up the new ATI range is coming out Q3/Q4… Gonna be a lot of cheap cards on eBay soon…

Okay, so I’ve had my equipment for 4 days now and UGH.
Apparently I’m supposed to be using Windows for these things because of overclocking ability, but I have had ZERO luck trying to get Win7 Ulti on a flash drive, much less using that to install to another flash drive.
I tried using Xubuntu like I always do and it installed fine but then crapped the bed when booting for the first time, an error that streamed down the loading screen that had to do with the problem of NVidia devices in linux and a driver issue.
I’m going to yoink some 20GB satas out of my 360 drives tomorrow and then try to find an optical drive of some sort to do the install.
I hate wasting time like this.

how many nvidia cards does windows 7 support?

6 working in cudaminer under win 7:

Didn’t think that’d be my barrier.
-
This may be unrelated but I had issuses as the on board graphics were trying to compete with the cards. If possible turn off onboard graphics b4 boot. I ended up installing Ubuntu 12.04 without any cards installed. Then as you may have read i had to upgrade the kernal b4 the drivers would install.
I’ve not tried windows tho so this all may be useless. :-(

No onboard graphics with my Gigabyte 990 tho.

I don’t understand why Windows 7 is so popular for mining, it’s only slightly cheaper than 8.1, people spend thousands on rigs then try to save $20 on software?
Try Windows 8.1, you click windows update, come back in 30 minutes and you’re ready to mine… It really is that simple…
-
I love Windows 8. I’ll admit though, I haven’t used it without ‘Start8’.

I’ve never went after a copy of Win8.
I guess I should? Meh. Can it run off flash drives?

For hassle free mining, it’s got great driver support. All my problems went away when I started using the stock Microsoft drivers that Windows update wanted to install for me.
No mate, you’ll need to grab a HDD, I use a Kingston 60GB SSD in all my rigs and they are fairly cheap…
-
im using ubuntu 12.04 it runs right off a usb stick and its free :-) you cant get cheaper than free.
also by using linux in my own little way im flipping the middle finger to the blood sucking monopolizing corporate that is microsoft.
which makes me happy inside! lol

Yeah, update. Definitely couldn’t get flash drive to work, got an install off one going but it wouldn’t do windows update which was necessary for the frickin’ .NET 4.0 framework. Ripped a 60GB SATA out of a 360 enclosure, wait, let me back up, ripped out a 20GB to start with and the install went fine but updates pushed it to capacity, so now I’m running a 60GB and it’s working.
I could not get xubuntu 12 to work with the Gigabyte 750ti, so I gave up.;
I didn’t want to have to run Windows, but I do want a machine where I’ll have these colocated to also be able to run my trading bot, so, you know, sacrifices.
Installing all the security updates now. Will clone drive for 2nd rig after I get everything to how I want it.
-
Did you try upgrading your kernal to version 3.12 as that was the problem I had with Linux and the gigabyte 750ti

I guess I’m going to have to.
I have never had such a difficult time with equipment as I have with my combo.
I’m wasting so much fucking time.

So everything was working… THEN IT WASN’T and I got this message over and over:
“Unable to query CUDA driver version! Is an nVidia driver installed?”
AHHHHHHHHH NVIDIA AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH
But now I just found a page where someone is saying I may have to make a dummy plug or something. Which is dumb but makes sense because I didn’t start having problems until I started remoting in.
If that doesn’t work, though, I’m going to be annoyed. OFF TO PERMA A SCREEN TO IT BRB.
