But yeah, I don’t really mind being called part of the problem when one of these coins comes out, I mine it for a few hours and sock the coins away somewhere. If someone wants to trade it for FTC, fine, then I’ll reach out and do that.
Holy crap you’re rich! Or at least you will be? Maybe? Some day? In a parallel meta-verse?

I don’t think it’s fair to label miners part of any problem. Yeah, I understand people would rather not deal with a bunch of crap coins spamming their precious forums, but this currency revolution is about freedom, choice, experimentation, voting with your CPU and dollar, and, perhaps most importantly, community. If people want to mine a crap coin that will never sell, let them! All that does is lower difficulty on SOME OTHER network, which means more valuable coins for me. You’re not part of the problem, you’re part of my solution!

Speaking of your Starcoins I was like “oh but they’re still on Cryptsy so why no-” and then I saw there wasn’t a trading market under BTC or LTC for it. OOPS.
Yeah… do let me know if that changes. I’ve got like 4k laying around.

Tradecoins on the other hand… now that IS part of the problem: The blockchain equivalent of monopoly money.

Okay, I’ve got a million. Back to my regularly scheduled pool.

I’m sure the person who I made the “you get a percentage of my intake” deal for colocating my rig will just be thrilled that he’s going to be getting 150,000 dogecoins.

Don’t joke. Debuts at position 18 on CoinMarketCap beating AnonCoin which has much respect (http://coinmarketcap.com/). Could be in the top 10 by the end of the year, or even the end of next week!

Dogecoin was number 1 on coinmarketcap today. Somebody was manipulating the price on an exchange by buying 1 Dogecoin for 1 Bitcoin or something.

Are they expecting to get away with ‘DOGE’ as a market symbol on the exchanges?

Why not? Pennies got away with CENT at cryptsy, which caused me to hack apart joda-money and the xChange library to support it. Then the uncle-fuckers added “POINTS” and I threw my hands up and filtered it out of the feed.

DOGE was the only currency to not take a huge hit in this loss across the board.

I’ve been watching it since the launch announcement and I expected it to fizzle out fairly quickly and it was surprising to see it take off like that. I suspect it’s mostly hype and viral marketing through the social networks and it does have an appeal especially to youngsters.

It appears that it was set up for a laugh more than anything and went further than the Devs expected, unfortunately this means that it doesn’t present itself as a serious currency and will really hinder it’s chances of ever being accepted by the wider public. It’s image is childish and fun and it’s community speak in a bizarre form of pigeon English and while these factors brought it much of it’s initial success I believe it’s a double edged sword and will really hurt the chances of adoption outside of the subset of people that it appeals to currently. How the devs go about broadening it’s appeal without alienating current users, I don’t know but it could be the rock this coin will perish on if not handled correctly.
It’s also clear that it’s an unexpected success for the Dev team and I would have to question if they even want to put the dedication and work it will take for this coin to achieve success it certainly can’t be something they have planned out to any great degree. But certainly it will live or die on what they do in the next few weeks and months. Memes have a habit of getting old and annoying quite quickly or when something else comes along.

Personally I have to say I like the way it’s brought crypto currency to people who had never heard of it before and some of these people will be looking for something more established and will migrate to feathercoin and Litecoin and of course bitcoin and some of the other more proven coins.

This is more a problem for crypto currency than anything else. It shows how easily replicated a currency is by somebody with half a brain and a little bit of time. Which lowers confidence for any one coin being the “most stable” for any serious amount of time.
