Do you have a backup of the wallet.dat?

If you do just download the feathercoin wallet again it and install it then import your wallet, if you don’t have a backup you could be in trouble.

I’ve generally kept away from windows 8 so can’t be much more help than that

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have the backup. Are there any instructions on how/where to copy the wallet.dat file to once I have downloaded it again?

        Thanks

Just replace the wallet.dat file in your %appdata%roaming/Feathercoin with your backuped one.

I don’t know windows 8, but i’m going to take a punt that atleast some of the functions are the same as windows 7.

Fiest lets see if your wallet is still on your PC.

Press the windows button and R to open up the run command window. In that window type

            %appdata%

            and enter

This will bring up windows file explorer which will probably have opened up in /appdata/roaming

If it has just opened in appdata open up the roaming directory and look for the directory Feathercoin

If you still have this directory open it and if you still see wallet.dat there it will be a quick and easy fix.

Just download Feathercoin wallet from the Feathercoin website and start it and you should be all good.

If you can’t find wallet.dat download and install the feathercoin wallet and then after shutting it down replace wallet.dat with your backup and restart.

If all goes well it will automatically rescan and everything will be good.

if not you may need to use the rescan or wallet repair commands

Let us know how you get on.

Okay I have just done that and my wallet.dat is still there. As a result of this I have tried to download the wallet from the website and I get an ‘Failed- Download error’ message. This is only occurring since the most recent windows 8.1 update which I downloaded. As a result I believe that this must be the culprit.

              Any ideas?

Okay I have solved the download issue. It was due to Avast Anti Virus blocking it, I disabled it and it worked.

All my coins are back :)

                Thank you for your help.

                **update**

The culprit was actually the anti virus software and not the windows update.

I’ve had no issues with bitdefender other than having to exclude the odd bit of mining software.

ESET is not too terrible. Although it does “get all up in there” as well

I find it necessary to disable Windows automatic updates, as they can break stuff. I was on the ATAG web site (WWII flight sim stuff) and many people identified a normal windows update as breaking the game…??

                        Anyway, thanks for the post/warning
