    • RE: Feathercoin comes out as a gold rated coin on Cryptopia.

I have just received this reply from Cryptopia to the appeal I did, against Feathercoin being de-listed by Cryptopia:

Dealing with this has been very stress full, management / administration task that has taken a large number of days. I have needed extra assistance from my son and AFB. There have been a number of members who have been affected and have needed support.

I need help to compensate non FTC people who have supported me, please contribute any spare FTC.

      Hi Wrapper,

Thank you for your time submitting this appeal.

We are pleased to inform you that Feathercoin will no longer be delisted from the Cryptopia Exchange.

    • FTC Block Difficulty analysis 500 difficulty MHash "attack"

I’ve done an analysis of 10/09/2017

It can be seen that a very large hash rate was directed at FTC at 9am, 12:30pm, 22:30 and 8 am 11/09/2017.

Block Time Trans Value Difficulty CDD Block Time Tran Temporal Anomaly
      1879055 2017-09-11 07:46:25 4 1878422.28 13.272 137.97 00:01 1
      1879054 2017-09-11 07:46:24 3 2502104.72 12.166 136.55 00:09 1
      1879053 2017-09-11 07:46:15 3 1514184.12 11.152 97739.62 00:09 1 1

Transactions 1878844 and 1878869 were not done during high hash rate, so had long transaction block confirmation times. The temporal anomaly is due the time of these blocks being slightly before the previous block, however its within a “normal margin”, especially with such a large over hash rate of ~50 times.

      Overview and Conclusions

The Feathercoin difficulty has increased to an average value of 36, with peak values near 500. The hash variations is much larger than previous analysis, showing very high levels of hash power being directed at FTC. Almost too high possibly indicating a very large pool or some new equipment available to one miner.

This analysis is a check of blockchain timings and activity. Over 1000 Blocks … from 9th to 10/07/2017

The average block time over 1000 Blocks is bad at 1:33 mins

The percentage of blocks with transactions was ~14% of blocks. The transfer to Fee value is also “normal” at 1% Value transfered

There were 167 minor time anomalies in the blockchain timings for the 1000 min test period. Many of those time anomalies were due to Blocks with the similar times, before.

      Feathercoin Block Analysis

FTC is routinely analysed if there are any concerns. These analysis are stored on Github to use as templates or review historical analysis.

Values of the parameters analysed can be extracted from FTC debug file. The ABE software used to produce sites such as http://explorer.feathercoin.com/chain/Feathercoin?count=1000&hi=1783533 does some of this work for you, so for sporadic analysis of a few days it is convenient to scrape the data from there.

Normally the web site displays up to 100 blocks but this can be expanded manually.

The data is accumulated in a text document, then pasted into the spreadsheet template from the last analysis. Charts and calculations data ranges are corrected as required.

Overview of the 1000 min period up to 11/09/2017

FTC Fees over 1000 Blocks 80000
      Transactions less fees 8.8M FTC
1 % Fee to Transaction volume ratio

Thanks for those interesting links. I note they (Gizmo) mention (eHRC) protection against hash variation as a distinguishing factor, Wellenrieter and I did a lot of work on that, so quite amusing. :)

Technically our most difficult achievement was the move over to Neoscrypt and the changes to mining, wallet and pool software that fork involved. Also the number of people involved, in addition to Ghostlanders amazing initial work …

      Feathercoin [FTC]

      FTC Icon

      About Feathercoin
Feathercoin is a powerful open source digital currency with monetary properties likened to Bitcoin, Litecoin and a myriad of countless alt coins, but under the hood is something very different.

Feathercoin is a highly upgraded and customised piece of software compared to the Bitcoin and Litecoin protocols. Based from BTC, LTC evolved, from which FTC was born, with the intent to expand, experiment, and build onto the blockchain technology in a manner open to all for participation. Just over one year on, this has lead to the development of many extraordinary projects but none like NeoScrypt. Through the support of the community and the hard work of Phoenixcoin’s lead developer Ghostlander, we have taken Scrypt where it should have headed years ago now.

Update to the latest software release: 0.9.6.1

      Technical features :
NeoScrypt Algorithm : Current Generation ASIC resistance

      Block target is 1.0 minutes
Block reward halves every 2,100,000 blocks
Default Feathercoin network port is 9336
Default RPC mining port is 9337

FTC is up on market cap and transaction maximum has reached $10 Milion per 24 hours. 10 times previous peaks and continuing high daily transaction rates ~ $5 Million.

Having seen the fees and slow transactions, around at the moment, I suspect FTC is being used as trading intermediary. Very interesting, that has caused 10 times the “trading”, than “big whales type trading”.

you may find interesting. It shows the transactions value in Dollars in 24 hours. It would be nice to see FTC hit $ 1 million per day transactions.

I can add other coins if info available.

    • RE: FTC Pools status

These figures of the FTC hash rate are averaged over the day. The pattern of variation of hash rate remains consistent with a base level of mining, then coin switches or multipools coming in and out of FTC hashing.

There were indications of some additional switchers in the last detailed analysis. There weren’t any temporal anomalies that might indicate any additional “attack” methods were being used other than switching.

The hash rate / Difficulty are equivalent, both are calculated from the rate of block production.

Re: Paper Wallet option for 0.13.1.

@Lizhi - I have imported (by hand) the paper wallet into 0.13.x. I have fixed a number of things missing / changed (rpcserver). AFB is doing / has done a high resolution print icon required for it.

However I’m stuck on a build issue. I think the code is reliant on something in comments, coin control or some other previous commit or change from 0.11.x to 0.13.x.

I will do a push to here, if any can have a look, just to see if it something stupid (for a proper programmer). I’ll post when I’ve factored a push from my build folder.

Template letter to pools / exchanges :

Hi Support, Just to let you know. There is a new version of Feathercoin software based on 0.13.0. software branch.

I understand you upgraded to 0.9.6.2 so you can schedule the update to you convenience. There are now just over 2 weeks till the fork (on 19th February 2018), which is a hard fork for versions to 0.9.6.1. and prior

FTC developers have customized the daemon software so it has a number of enhancements for pools / exchanges, in particular specific rejection of non FTC communication from other coins.

The new version will have new facilities via a SegWit and a soft fork. These will be officially announced once an updated GUI is completed there will be further minor releases.

You should be able to upgrade via the PPA, I can contact other experts in the forum if you have any questions. : https://forum.feathercoin.com/category/18/support

Can I encourage anyone to have a go at this project? It’s a really good student project, even if you couldn’t finish you’d learn loads.

Usually (these projects) is a matter of reconfiguring a few variables, we could even set up a FTC chat group so Admin could answer any questions without embarrassment (of where to look for information / what to learn).

It really would be little harder than setting up and building a miner from Github.

    • RE: COINPAYMENTS.NET???

I’ve not much trading experience but have looked at Feathercoin on Cryptopia, $5000 (per day) is relatively small amount of Feathercoin trading. Feathercoin is as well known in the USA as Europe so that shouldn’t be an issue.

I think it is a misnomer that being on more exchanges spreads the buyers, traders on exchanges look for good coins, so it widens Feathercoins base. It is much cheaper and quicker to move FTC around exchanges than Bitcoin for instance.

Getting a new coin on an exchange is the make or break, so getting FTC on more exchanges is one thing the “normal member” can do to improve FTC standing.

The down side to having more exchanges is that they are noted on the exchange list page and members inform them when software updates are needed. (exchanges run of block, so can cause themselves fork chains if the stay on a wrong version) i.e. they need to be communicated with, which is work.
