Swapped out video card and now no mining programs will work

I had a 7770. I’ve been using several different mining programs off and on for Bitcoin, Litecoin, and Feathercoin. They all worked.

I just swapped it out for a 7950. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, made sure the AMD APP SDK was installed, deleted all the folders that I had the mining software in (including the stuff in the Roaming folder for my login), and started from scratch. For some dumb reason, I can’t get any of them to work now. I’ve been playing with Guiminer (the scrypt version) as well as directly with cgminer. It crashes instantly, leaving behind a 0 byte log file. The Event Viewer doesn’t give much info:

Any ideas? Heaven Benchmark works fine, giving 25 fps on the highest quality.

I’d wager it’s a Catalyst/Display driver issue.
I’ve had the most stability and luck using Catalyst 13.1 with my 7970s.

Just to make sure, and to clarify; Have you run this tool to remove all traces of AMD related drivers, codecs, programs, dlls, etc:

Note: That does remove EVERY driver, including chipset. So if you’re running from an AMD CPU have your chipset drivers on hand to install again.

I’m not using the AMD-SDK with 13.1 and are currently achieving rates between 550-600khash each GPU.

So I guess, based on this experience, that I wouldn’t be able to use both video cards together?

Oh, you can. You can’t crossfire them together but you can use them both individually in your system.
As the cards are both new series cares (7xxx) you’ll have no problems what so ever using them in the same system without installing any other drivers.
5xxx, 6xxx, 7xxx cards can be used simultaneously in the same system using one of the newer ATI catalysts, I believe from around 12.8 onwards 7xxx cards were supported.

Where you will encounter issues is when you want to use a ‘legacy’ card in your system at the same time as a newer card. 4xxx cards and below are now known as ‘legacy’ and require their own drivers. Which, in turn, is known to cause conflict with the newer drivers.
