We have quite a few spam accounts that need to be cleaned as well as put in new measures. However, we’re still growing quickly… we expect to see those numbers jump quite a bit in the next 60 days.

I’d say more than half of them maybe 40% is honest accounts.

Lots and lots of spam accounts.

Don’t we have a captcha setup for account creation?

We do. Bushstar mentioned he was looking at other measures. I can’t remember the exact number, but a member from our research team did an analysis on Bitcointalk. ** A VERY SMALL ** percentage of those accounts were active… even with their measures. I recognize this, that’s why I don’t give it much weight.

Research team: What were the numbers again? I’m looking through the posts.

The important thing here is how we utilize our active numbers:

Good Initiative John. This is what I like to see, solutions to where there is a problem (potentially).

Love the idea of PMing users with info to get a good indication of actual # of active users.

                  bitcointalk
                  over 131,000 members
30,000 members have made more than 5 posts
with 80,000 members never even posting
That is about 3 out of every 5 never posting/or spam.

Litecoin forum is doing better with only 2000 out of there nearly 5000 never posting.
That is about 2 out of every 5 never posting/or spam.

We are doing worse than either forum with more than 4 out every 5 never posting/or spam.
So bottom line is we need a spam overhaul.

The good news for us is that the members that do make a post normally make more than 5 and remain quite active.

Also encourage users that register to actually post. I’m a member on a number of poker sites I’ve never actually posted to. I might have had the intention, but since I’m able to read all the posts, I never bother to log into my account.

I agree and do the same on many forums, but with the activism items here on this forum we are enabling people to get involved and post.
