      Feathercoin Network analysis 18-7-2013

The network figures for Litecoin have been removed from coinchoose.com, so I can’t find out yet where the extra mining is from. Hopefully that removal is temporary? seems a bit suspicious to me.

The Litecoin Network will be 27,000 MHash/s, I’ve updated this page “when I found out”, later.

Trollbox is starting talk of an attempt to 51% us again. One of the pools is reporting 3 orphans over the last hour… an attempt to sabotage the Oxford meetup?

The block chain appears to show that 51767 to 51800 were injected. I didn’t verify them all but if they are that’s 34 confirms. By far the longest attack yet.

Mine my friend. ;D Convince others to mine. Hash rate has grown but we’re still vulnerable.

It might have happened at 10:30 there was a strange down spike in the p2pool.

I started another miner (small) , can a few other people do the same? Have we got some secret attack protocol? Someone possible just got 7000 FTC when its taken me months to get 900. I’m a bit p*ssed, if that is true.

                          • what happened to Litecoin on Coinchoose? doesn’t that distort their auto tradeing? Who runs that stuff, I think we should be open.

if they only got 7000 ftc then their trouble was not worth it. the cost alone of the attack would be higher then the profitt of 7000ftc…

Wrong Svennand - It degrades our network and reputation, the attacker’s bitcoins or Litecoins will be worth more rubbishing Feathercoin.

                              • we haven’t stopped them yet so they’ll be back, perhaps getting 700000.

Something similar happened last time around. They seem to be overwriting with their own blocks but there was no significant double spending (if at all). Attacking and overwriting blocks will take the same resources as having mined them the normal way. The only benefit will be that the difficulty won’t spike; and like last time may even reduce.

It’s obvious and has been obvious since we begun to make waves, people are willing to take a loss to mess with our reputation. The bottom line, ** any ** scrypt coin (aside from LTC) is vulnerable… the reason the others don’t get attacked is they pose no risk.

Advanced checkpointing is still in development, I emailed Bushstar for an update on the progress.

i agree regarding the repurtation part.
What i meant was that if they directed that much hashing power at the ftc network (network around 1400mhash), which means they need more than 1400, unless they do alot of smart ddos attacks.
For that period of time i think 7000ftc isnt much to show for.

Hope to see some smart solutions soon regarding checkpoint and so on.

They orphaned 34 valid blocks. It means that our miners won’t receive 6800 FTC in block rewards (me included). How do you think they will be happy? Many of them may consider switching to Litecoin. That’s the real purpose of this attack.

Many users whose transactions are trapped in those orphaned blocks also ain’t happy indeed.

I’ve started to loose mined blocks, that were confirmed… Very annoying, that is a criminal action unless they get returned. Perhaps the miners shouldn’t be anonymous and their ip address is recorded?

Can anyone with a bit of BTC to float, pump the value on BTC-e? Then we’ll get the auto miners (~2Mh) onboard to sort it out? Only needs to go back to 0.0011ish?
