Many users whose transactions are trapped in those orphaned blocks also ain’t happy indeed.

I’ve started to loose mined blocks, that were confirmed… Very annoying, that is a criminal action unless they get returned. Perhaps the miners shouldn’t be anonymous and their ip address is recorded?

Can anyone with a bit of BTC to float, pump the value on BTC-e? Then we’ll get the auto miners (~2Mh) onboard to sort it out? Only needs to go back to 0.0011ish?

Are people getting bored now that LTC dropped back down and figure they’ll attack FTC instead? >:(

A couple hundred will be needed to even make a dent. :P

It might have happened at 10:30 there was a strange down spike in the p2pool.

I started another miner (small) , can a few other people do the same? Have we got some secret attack protocol? Someone possible just got 7000 FTC when its taken me months to get 900. I’m a bit p*ssed, if that is true.

• what happened to Litecoin on Coinchoose? doesn’t that distort their auto tradeing? Who runs that stuff, I think we should be open.
if they only got 7000 ftc then their trouble was not worth it. the cost alone of the attack would be higher then the profitt of 7000ftc…
They orphaned 34 valid blocks. It means that our miners won’t receive 6800 FTC in block rewards (me included). How do you think they will be happy? Many of them may consider switching to Litecoin. That’s the real purpose of this attack.
Hopefully people will see past all the haters and stick with feathercoin. We do have an awesome community here, well worth sticking around for.

I do however concurr that the 51% attack has to be handled.
All of the involved are working hard to figure/fix this.

For now just set backup pool/solo/p2pool to have the ddos under control.
Buy an extra gpu/get more people over so we can get the network hash much higher

Its annoying, sure; but as these miners are sticking through our high difficulty phase I am assuming they are mining not just for profits. So I hope they will stick with us.

Besides, if the miners stay loyal, in principle they won’t be losing FTCs. Lets say the attacker joined through normal channels and mined 6800 FTC along with the other miners. The extra hash provided by him would lead to a difficulty increase which means the miners will get less after the retarget. When an attack happens, the miners lose blocks but the difficulty doesn’t increase. Maths would suggest that the FTCs received by the miners in both the cases is the same.

Actually last time around due to a quirk in the target adjustment the difficulty actually went down after the 2nd adjustment. That resulted in the miners getting more FTC than they would have gotten otherwise in the same period of time.

We won’t lose our reputation provided we bounce back from it. The more they attack us the stronger we get.

We just have to work hard and hope that the attack isn’t so strong as to be fatal. I am not worries about this right now.

I don’t support pumping the price, it will just backfire and we don’t have anywhere near enough money.

Guys i’m posting on my phone so stuggling to keep track.

I’ve just swung 6MH back in (they’ve been testing out my suite of pools before you ask).

What’s the state of play (in words of no more than 2 syllables)?

The network has gone through swings from 1G to 5G and back. The haters are mad because no one is dumping after the rise in profitability.

3% is peanuts. We’ve had 400% swings.

Hi Magic Magic - that’s not the attack, he/she injected 7000 ftc worth of false block accepts into the chain. There is a new block every 2 seconds from 9:51:30 to 9:53 this morning. The attack only took a couple of minutes ( I notice) so maybe more economic than you think.

The 2nd fork is at #51801. 29 additional blocks orphaned, the total is 63 so far, and it may not be the end.

It’s obvious we’ll need to lead by example with a technical solution. Hopefully the miners realize that ANY scrypt coin outside of LTC can get hit just as hard if not harder and more frequent. With 60+ alts floating around and the promise of LTC Gox, we’re fighting for every single hash.

4 prong approach:

• Bushstar continues with advanced check-pointing
• We get additional community members contributing code to resolve possible attacks
• We increase value through services (starting in a few days) which will attract miners
• We continue to promote

By time we’re ready for wide adoption, we will have already had the experience to deal with different types of attacks.

I’m almost ready to try a different route to checkpointing.

Reorgs require no effort. I’ve thought of a few ideas, but when you mentioned options trading I had a breakthrough.

Hi Zero Drama, I originally posted the 3% rise in hash as a good thing, but analysis showed the attack. Maybe a separate issue or arising from the difficulty change. The attack is bad, and your information on the wild swings in Hash is bad.

• I had already noticed from my analysis, that some of the swings were due to high hash rate miners like our own Nutnut moving or updating his rigs. Where the swings are due to Feathercoin miners diverging into worldcoin etc… that maybe OK, as they are not attacking the chain with injects.

It took a couple of minutes to inject, true - thats the time when they had to surpass the network hash. But they had to mine their longer chain on the current difficulty.
