I have one scrypt mining rig. It has an 860 watt power supply. Is it safe to supply power to a KnC miner on the same power supply as long as I don’t exceed the power rating on the power supply? I have 3 GPU’s in there now. I’d have to remove one GPU which I’m okay with, as long as I don’t blow something up by plugging in an outside power drain. I don’t see how it would be a problem, as you can power items that are not connected to the motherboard with the power supply on a typical computer setup. Like hard drives which only have a data connection which doesn’t supply power to the unit itself.

      I welcome feedback.

If its a multirail PSU then make sure you dont overload a rail. If its single rail then it should be OK. However, my recommendation would be why risk anything going wrong? KNC miners are expensive and seasonic 850w psu’s are not. If I invested in a Knc miner I would protect that thing like a baby! If something breaks and you have to wait to get it fixed you will miss the critical window for mining before the difficulty makes it a paperweight.

        +1 on this one.

Very good. I’ll buy another PSU.
