I’ve been lurking on the forum for awhile and though the community might benefit from me sharing the build guides I put together:

1. Budget Feathercoin Mining Rig Build Guide (under $900)
2. 4 GPU Feathercoin Mining Rig Build Guide
3. 6 GPU Feathercoin Mining Rig Build Guide

Feedback is appreciated. I’m always reviewing these guides and try to update them to reflect the best performing hardware and current price points. These guides apply to assembling custom mining hardware for any Scrypt based currencies, including Feathercoin.

Cheers!

Thanks for sharing!

Some thoughts:

On your 4 & 6 GPU rig builds you state: “Powered risers are easier on your motherboard than non-powered risers.” You really should put something in there that lets everyone know that they most likely will end up with burnt hardware if they don’t use at least a couple powered risers. Some motherboards can run 4 cards without catching fire, but to be safe, I recommend only even attempting 3.

+1 on this one!

Heres an example from one of my mobos with 4x GPU…

While one could run upto 6 GPUs it’s not recommended?

Also I was looking at buying some of these cards, I see they recommend 550W for a single card, would a 1200W PSU be sufficient for three of these? (this will be the first time I have intentionally built a rig for mining)

I picked this card due to many posts about using the Gigabyte 7970 cards, and being able to get a 700+ KHash/s from them.

We were simply saying that you should never run more than 3 cards on non-powered risers because it can damage the motherboard. This is exactly what happened in that youtube video.

If you are going with the 7970s, I recommend the following hardware: http://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php/topic,2555.0.html
This motherboard can run 4 cards without powered risers (I don’t use any powered risers), but to be safe you still should use at least 1 powered riser if you use 4 cards.

Thanks for the help, I guess I have more reading to do before I build it. I don’t want to spend 2k+ and accidently break something when it could be avoided easily.
