I am new to FTC and crypto currency in general. I have now downloaded my wallet from the home page and I have FTC within. I have saved the wallet.dat file in a number of different locations. I have also encrypted the wallet.

Is saving the .dat file sufficient to save my coins should something go wrong with my hard drive.

For example if I could not get back onto my PC could I download the wallet again onto my laptop and then use the .dat file from a memory stick to put the coins back. Would this work or is there something else that I should be doing such as saving the whole wallet files.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

        Hi Danlau

As long as you have the wallet.dat file saved somewhere safe and encrypted, you’re good. The wallet.dat file only includes the private keys for all your addresses, so if you start a new client on a new computer with the old wallet.dat file, it will scan the blockchain for all transactions and coins which go with those private keys.
