There is going to be a massive Class-X solar storm heading straight towards earth within the next 24 hours, this has the potential to knock out large portions of the power grids around the world. Not good if you have a rig, so have a read of this article and prepare yourselves for the worst… http://www.inquisitr.com/1112687/solar-flare-twice-the-size-of-earth-producing-m-class-blasts-every-two-hours/

Should read:

‘Some scientists think that there is a 10% chance that an X-Class solar flare will occur in the next 24 hours’

But 10/10 for drama ;)

Seriously though, should we not plan ahead for these kinds of things?

If this sort of event happened then your rig would quite frankly be the least of your worries. I am not saying I do not think anything like this will ever happen, I am just not going to spend my time worrying about it.

If/when a serious worldwide event like this does occur, I will have more pressing concerns than if my computer is still mining coins or not lol

And well… I’ve survived one year without any power supply, no TV, no fridge, no computers no nothing, in the city, during the war, so… It can be done. :)

I once asked my mentor what an EMP actually was from an electrician’s point of view. I’ll try and paraphrase his response:

“Imagine a radio broadcast on every frequency from 1 kHz to 1 tHz at around 1 megawatt. Now imagine your a metal pin on an IC. I’ll let you do the math on what the induced alternating current would be based on your length and orientation, but if you look at that spec sheet over there where it says ‘maximum operating voltage’, it should be little wonder why that particular IC will never work again.”

FORD: *nods*
BARMAN: Shouldn’t we lie down or put a bag over our heads or something?
FORD: If you want.
BARMAN: Will it help?
FORD: Not really. *He gives everyone in the bar a friendly salute, exits.*
BARMAN: Last orders, then?
