I didn’t realise it at the time, however my 3rd Seasonic PSU in 2 months was dying…

I actually thought some kids had thrown a fire cracker into my warehouse, but after much head scratching I noticed one of my rigs was dead… Made a right bang as it gave up…

My local supplier was really good about it, swapped it over for a new unit immediately, but when I went back to the warehouse to install it I noticed the motherboard was dead as well.

It takes a lot to kill a Gigabyte UD3, they are rock f*cking solid, I’m gonna swap it over tomorrow but I’m also wondering what else is dead.

So what actually happens when a PSU dies? Does it just die or does it send a charge of power through your system bricking everything???

I thought Seasonic were one of the miners weapon of choice?

The 2 previous ones died in the middle of the Aussie Summer and they were in an outdoor shed with a tin roof, so I can sort of understand those 2. But it’s nice and cool in Melbourne these days so I was really surprised.

I was pulling 980 watts from a 1250w Gold unit, the chap in the repairs department said you can normally push the Seasonics much harder than the rated wattage as well.

          Must be bad luck…

Is there nowhere that does independent failure rate reports?

              I found this…

              Average Failure rates:

              • Cooler Master 0,98% (vs 1,01% year before)

              • Fortron / FSP Group 0,99% (vs 0,42% year before)

              • be quiet! 1,15% (N/A)

              • Antec 1,23% (vs 1,17% year before)

              • Thermaltake 1,98% (vs 2,36% year before)

              • Corsair 2,18% (vs 2,30% year before)

              • Seasonic 2,36% (vs 2,20% year before)

              sauce

Oh and the GA UD3 is fine, I swapped 2 PSU’s with my supplier and they gave me a dead one, so I thought the Mobo was dead as well.

So my love affair with this motherboard remains as strong as ever :D

Well usually the Seasonic owners tend to push their psu’s extra hard. that beeing said. I have 8 rigs with seasonic/xfx, not a single fail. running for over 6months 24/7 rocking 3-4 cards 7970/280X (3 now after remodeling)
