          Definitely interesting - but it wasn’t banned by the FDA until 1924…so based on their information at the time: it was “useful”. I’m sure that 100 years from now, medicine will look back aghast with some of the things that we do nowadays. :)

                Well… like they say in the comment in the same page, the cough drugs haven’t changed that much… the use of codeine is more or less the same. Let’s not forget that more than the effect sometimes what counts is the dose. So, while it’s quite shocking to see “heroine” printed on a syrup, well… we’re taking even worst drugs today.

                I’d like to see what will they say about statins in 100 years. Believe me, it’s not going to be a good verdict.
