      Hi nice people,

Sorry if this has been covered before but i cant quite find the answer.

i have been backing up my wallet every time i have sent coins to it but i think im wrong here right.

Once the wallet.dat is created, i only need to back this up and thats it?

The coins are stored on the blockchain and not in the wallet right?

It is encrypted and i feel thats safe enough im just not 100% on the wallet backup and now i have over 20,000 FTC i really dont want to bugger it up!

      Thanks guys.

Hi yes once your wallet is created and encrypted and backed up your safe.

The only reason you would have to take a new backup is if you added a new address to your wallet. So it may be worth adding a few spare ones in case you want them in the future without having to create new backups.
I have my backups in a few locations as I don’t want to loose them forever. So on my PC on a pen drive(different location) and on Dropbox just make sure your password is really secure more than 8 chars with numbers etc should be safe!

If you are a windows user read up on symbolic links with something like dropbox, they can be used to link folders from outside your dropbox folder to within your dropbox folder and thus getting synchronised/backed up by the drop box client. Don’t forget to enable 2FA on dropbox too to provide more security!

Symbolic links are great for other things too, it’s a great power function.

It’s a shame baracuda’s copy.com doesn’t provide 2fa because their client backs up from other folders if you just drop a shortcut of the target into the copy com folder.

Or do it the old fashioned way with a scheduled task and a .bat

Some valid points there. I just manually do it every now and then, i have a winrar archive with a good password stored in dropbox and a copy on a few USB sticks, hopefully ill be ok.

                  Cheers for the input.
