      Hello Community!

I am a Windows Admin for a Company and never got in contact with Linux. I know that some of our Stuff in the Network is using a Linux in the Background, but I could not care less. :grinning:

Some friends and I got interested in mining. We started with NiceHash, using our Gaming PCs and aquired some Money. Now NiceHash is not an Option, thanks to the Hack and I dug deeper into the Topic.
I was watching FTC for a while, and always thought about getting some Coins. My friends and I made an Agreement. We split the cost for a small mining rig and see what happens.
I took care of all the technical things. I wanted to go with Linux, as it is lightweight and stable. Some even mentioned, that you might get a higher Hashrate. “OK” I thought. “How hard can it be?”
      Turned out: hard. Very hard.
Withing a week a went from “What is ssh?!!” to having a working mining rig. With Solo mining on Ubuntu Server 16.04. What a ride… Need to sleep

I loved the info from this Forum. Keep up the good work dev Team! I hope I can contribute in any way.

      Happy Hashing Everyone!

I just finished moving my cards which were purchased for mining away from my office PC, and into a dedicated machine. During the process of building the miner, I toyed with the idea of using Ubuntu rather than Windows, but I decided against it due to the exact reason you mentioned in your post…I NEED SLEEP! HA! Well, my machine has been up and running great since Sunday evening. I woke up this morning to find that Windows restarted last night while I slept for some reason. I have no idea how much downtime…I can only assume that it was 5 minutes after I last checked to make sure it was running before going to sleep.

I still plan on using another OS at some point, but it’s gonna be a while. For the time being, I have Splashtop remote access on the computer, and the remote viewer on my phone. I also have the app from give-me-coins which I can use to monitor my hash rate. I periodically check the app, and if I see it has went to 0, I remote onto my desktop, and click the shortcut to my batch file which sits right on my desktop, super easy to find on my small phone screen.

This is the best solution I’ve come up with to avoid losing sleep learning a new OS.

                lol. Welcome and happy hashing.

Linux rocks…windows sucks :-) I say that being certified by Microsoft.

Sounds like a good solution you came up with! I can give you tips/my 10 Cents of Ubuntu, if you ever want to Switch. Some guides online are quite old, and you need to adjust things. Maybe it will help to Transfer the knowledge from Noob to Noob
Most Linux experts just throw things at you like “you Need to ssh back into you box with -X”
Well, it makes sense to me now, but it took 1 hour for me to decipher the Task…

                    Thanks for the welcome!
I have to say: Linux grows on me. In the last week I was SO Close to Format and slam Win10 on it. At least 5 times I said to myself: “Alright. That’s it. F*** all this, I am ging back to Win tomorrow” But in the Office I was thinking about the current Problem. Using my breaks to Google different Ideas. Eventually forged a “masterplan” for the Situation. Got home and tried (and tried and tried…)
Now it works. For an Linux Expert this might be like “Pfft… would have done this better and in 1h” but for me it is “my precious”.
Now I only have to manage to OC the 1070s… Damn you xorg! Damn you Nvidia! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!
I ordered fake HDMI Plugs from Amazon this morning. Maybe this will help. Try and try again
