We have had over 6GH/s network hash rate on the peak of attack. Our top 7 pools contributed to over 3GH/s. The attack failed.

The 41.4% diff adjustment is meaningless when the hash rate goes up by 300%

            Still better than 4x.

We are are almost back to 66. A few oscillations are inevitable.

This was really nifty how they did this.

It took less than than the target time to get to the next difficulty adjust so the difficulty should have gone up. Because the attacker overwrote the starting block with one from a day before it looked to the network like it took an extra day. This made the difficulty go down.

This is the first time that I have ever seen this sort of attack. We currently have an unexpected easy batch of coins to mine. Perhaps this is the attackers way of compensating miners for the orphaned blocks :)

And as predicted the transition back to 66 diff went fine! 6 more hours until the next jump. Good thing we adjust faster now so corrections come quicker.

The 41.4% difficulty adjustment has allowed the block time to get down to 35sec. It’s clearly not keeping up.

                    No it isn’t.

It just catches up in steps. Who cares if it jumps 300% in 1 shot or several. If the hashrate goes skyhigh it will have more retargets in one day. Result is it will reach 300% soon enough.

The problem is entirely a perception not a fact. 300% in 1 jump or 41% 100% 141% 200% 282% = If we have 5 jumps in one day it’s the same thing as if we have 1 jump in 1 day. Except that they can never catch us in a difficulty trap.

You can’t take stats immediately after a difficulty readjust. Wait for sometime and see the true picture.

I think they still can. In case FTC drops by, say, 30% on btc-e and coinchoose only shows 75% profitability a lot of miners will jump boat. Hashrate will go down from 6000 to maybe 600.

Solely with technical means we have no chance to protect our coin. It can only be with trust, good PR, marketing, value added, …

Difficulty is too high again now, hash rate will decline fast.

I think the 504 bock re-target is too high, should be half that ie 12hr.
Don’t think its too bad. We still have around 2 Ghash/s and profitablity of 90%+.

Even if it halves we still get to the retarget in 2 days and I think we will stabilize around 90 with a few small oscillations.

My difficulty seems to jump every share I get. Is that normal?
