Sorry - i meant GV. GA are my mobo’s. :-[

Firmware is a possibility - all mine are 007 fw.

Worst comes to the worst blow it all away and start again. I had to do this with a build where I added 2 cards a week or so later.
The additional cards were 150Khs less.

That card is definitely good for 750.

Is updating the firmware and updating the BIOS the same thing? Do you have any idea about how to go about this process? Pretty sure this is my problem as nothing else seems to work. Should I maybe try going back to 13.1 catalyst instead of 13.4?

Yes, they are the same - http://bit.ly/15614BI

I only use 13.1 as it seems the most stable

No.

As i have said. I run stock (but slightly OCd) gv-797oc-3gd on the 007 bios and get 755KHs. If you cant get the same rates from the same cards then there’s an issue with your os/drivers.

Maybe do a complete re-install of windows AFTER you have updated the bios to THE CORRECT bios for your card and forget all the GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100 etc. I dont use all that stuff and hash faster than most with those cards.

Follow these general instructions…

1. Vanilla install of win7 x64
2. Patch windows fully
3. install .NET 4.5
4. Install latest AMD chipset drivers (select custom but install everything (inc video drivers)
5. Install 13.1 card drivers (some report success with 13.4 - i have had grief with it)
6. Install cgminer 3.1.1
7. Run this in your start script and FORGET all the other switches.
cgminer --scrypt -o -u -p x -o -u

uninstalled and installed 13.4 as suggested and ran :
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
cgminer --no-submit-stale --scrypt -w 256 -g 1 --thread-concurrency 8192 --intensity 13 --gpu-engine 1100 --gpu-memclock 1500 --gpu-fan 100 -o http://feathercoin.is-a-geek.com:8341 -u worker.1 -p xxxx --api-listen --api-network --api-allow W:0/0
Giving me 545ish :/

I think i will just have to do this today then if i can find my windows 7 cd somewhere. I guess one question is installing the chip drivers the same as installing catalyst software? I have only downloaded and installed Catalalyst 13.4 but keep seeing a mention about chip software and not sure what that is? Are you also installing a seperate SDK from what is in the catalyst pkg already? Thanks for the advice! hoping to fix it this weekend

Just a heads up I did a complete uninstall of 13.4 catalyst and am now on 12.8 with 2.7 SDK and still cannot get past 550 kh/s. Now you said i should update the bios before and am now at that point where I am going to do that but am not exactly sure which BIOS to update to. Can please point me to the correct BIOS for this card that you think might be better? Thanks so much for your help!

tiny update! So i ended up flashing the GPU with the most updated GIGABYTE BIOS and am now getting 590 kh/s almost out of the box settings =D that is about 40 more then I was able to get past for the last week so progress finally made.

I used the F3BIOS to flash : ATI Source BIOS Version:015.032.000.004
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4102&dl=1#bios

I then went back to 13.1 catalyst and am on 2.7 SDK as when I try to instal 2.8 SDK i get something about installation pkg error fail?

So the fact that I have pushed past the 550 mark pretty easily on the new BIOS means I am off to a good start right? Now to just get past 600 and maybe 7? If you think I should flash with a different BIOS please let me know as there were many to choose from and just chose the most recent. Thanks guys!

After several more BIOS flashes and fresh installs of many catalyst versions I am currently running stable at 700/khs on a 925/1275 speeds with TC of 8192 on 13.6 beta 2 catalyst and cgminer 3.2.2. I flashed from a OC to TO BIOS to get a default of 1100/1500 instead of the 1000/1375 it came with. It allowed me to shoot into the high 750plus kh/s speeds but would constantly crash and go to black screen 5 minutes later. Found the 925/1275 on a forum and that brings me to a stable 700 kh/s with a 82-85 temp still being in the case with no risers(side panel off)

Does anyone have any configs for cgminer to get above 705 kh/s using a GPU engine speed of less then a 1000? Making progress one kh/s at a time. If I could get 30-50 more Id be such a happy camper…thanks guys!

Glad you got it working.

You really should read the readme for cgminer. It has a complete tuning guide for 7970s. As for settings, I posted earlier in this thread to use 1080/1500. If that don’t work, try 1050/1500.

1100 kills mine too.

oh trust me…I have read and followed that readme config over and over and never came out to too much help as my TC was 22400, memclock 1600 and everything I tried wouldnt get me past 550. That was until i flashed the BIOS and am now running stable with a 1000/1275 as my GPU is still in the case and anything higher shoots my temp past 82/83 where I am not comfortable with it being. I think I am fine with it being 82 until I can pull it out and give it some fresh air here soon. From there the 1040/1500 seems to give me 760plus! but with it still in the case the temp rises past 88/89 in minutes before I kill it :/ man what a headache but pretty stoked to have it basically mining now instead of crashing or giving me less then superb rate. Only took 240ish hours of my life to make it happen. thanks for all the help and advice! goodtimes
