No worries d2 - I can’t believe how many haters there are out there - why would they want ANY alt to fail? I understand that some people are holding large chunks of BTC and LTC, but they fail to understand that 1). the value of FTC is not really linked to either of them, and 2) FTC actually complements the other currencies
      [/quote]

Take everything shouted in the trollbox with a grain of salt.

Most who illogically critique FTC have their own agenda, profit. They would rather you and others buy into the coin they have the most of so they can dump it to you.

I tell everyone not to buy FTC if they dont like it. Vote with your wallet but don’t spread BS and lies on the trollbox. Well that is just my approach. Has worked well for me thus far =)

So it seems my time here and in the crypto world may be short lived :(

Got home from work yesterday and there was an email message from BTC-e

        "Dear Nightcrawler,
We have received a request to restore the password for your profile. To reset your password please go to:

        https://btc-e.com/forgot/xxxxxxxxxxxxx

If you’re not going to recover your password, simply delete this message.

        IP: 198.200.59.218
        Login: Nightcrawler

        Regards,
        Administration of BTC-E.COM"

I don’t follow the link and head to BTC-e and try to log in - of course my password doesn’t work. So I generate a new ‘forgot my password’ link, follow it from my email and set a new password. Log in to BTC-e and not to my surprise (by this stage) is the following:

        #47080767 -2.66 BTC Withdrawal BTC to address 12eKNJdiyfwERkrDXz2Hpg5BB7aC3HL3k9 17.06.13 08:38:39 yes

So somehow, some piece of shit, without knowing my email address, has used the password recovery on BTE-e, somehow intercepted the email, reset the password and cleaned my account out. I know it was only 2.66BTC, but that has taken me a month of huge frustration to mine - having set everything up and mucked around for countless hours researching, testing and finally recently settling on FTC as my alt weapon of choice.

So, how shit is the security on BTC-e, and (other than not have left any money in there, which is inconvenient for trading) what else could I have done? “Withdraw only with request on E-Mail” is switched on. If they had actually somehow hacked into my email, they would have seen my passwords for most other websites that I use in there and cleaned them out too, so I am guessing that is not what they did. If they had phished/keylogged/accessed my PC they would have cleaned out my various wallets, which they did not do. I am running live Malwarebytes and it never picked up a thing, and run Symantec a/v. Both of which have picked up things before, but nothing recently. I did a full scan with each overnight and they picked up nothing.

To say I am pissed off is not even close :( … considering quitting the scene/mining altogether.

This is a one time deal. Post a BTC address and I’ll send you 2.66 BTC.

Now make sure from now on your passwords to your email and accounts are very well protected as well as different from each other.

15 character minimum for both, numbers, symbols, upper and lower case.

Also you may want to just create a new account on the exchange altogether to avoid future attacks.

I have been using BTC-e for over 18 months now and I have not lost 1 single bitcent or alt-coin due to a hacker.

If I don’t respond here just PM me.

          Smoothie :)

Wow, completely did not expect that. You are a legend Smoothie!

Just shows how great this community is, and why my choice to back FTC all the way/talk it up non-stop was the right choice.

If anyone else has made some seriously good coin from FTC/BTC, might you consider donating some to smoothie - I don’t think it is fair for them to cover the whole of my unfortunate loss …

Faith in humanity restored (mostly) … but I am seriously hoping karma catches up with hacker and he/she/it gets hit by a bus.

Yeah I have changed ALL of my passwords with insanely strong ones - and I will delete my btc-e account and make 3 new ones - 1 for trollbox, 1 for investing and 1 for ‘savings’. Do you think it is safe for me to leave currency in there, or should I withdraw straight after transactions?

I still don’t understand how they could have cracked a password - you only get 3 incorrect attempt at logging in to btc-e or my webmail.

Can’t thank you enough man - I have been despondent all night - it is not just about the money, but the fact that someone would/could do this :(

I am hoping you have made some good cash from FTC/BTC to cover my loss.

              Thanks mate!

Just got it - thanks again! Can’t believe how cool you are - talk about helping a brother out - I am going to pump FTC twice as hard around the place now.

                Can’t say thanks enough!

As far as leaving funds on an exchange…that is up to you. There is risk there but there is also fees to consider when withdrawing. BTC-e has this all listed on their finances page.
