I’m a newbie, so I have only a rudimentary idea of how coin mining works. How/where do I set up a wallet for my feathercoins? Thanks!

Hi there blt420 and welcome to Feathercoin.com forums, you’ll be wanting to head over to here: https://www.feathercoin.com/dl/FeatherCoin.zip
Download and install feathercoin-qt, that’ll give you a ‘wallet’ and a primary ‘receive’ address. Protect that wallet and address with your life!
I.e., Hit Settings -> Encrypt Wallet and give it a password, then hit File -> Backup Wallet and save a backup somewhere safe. Run regular backups too.

Another newbie question for you: How do I get this program to run on my gpus instead of on cpu? It currently seems to run only on cpu. . .

Ah, for that. I suggest you join a pool. Head over to the ‘Mining’ section of this forum to see the various pools around here. Or you can go direct to the pool I’m using now, https://ftc.d2.cc (in my signature, I mine with, for and on d2’s pool. He’s a user here).

The most common GPU miners are Reaper and Cgminer (or CUDAminer for Nivida GPUs). You’ll want one of those and then to do a little reading on how to use them. I can help out with Reaper and Cgminer, but unfortunately haven’t a Nivida GPU to test things out on.

Edit: Nivida mining isn’t as well developed yet, but I’ll get you a few links on where to start and what to do.

So first you will want to download CUDAMiner, and with Mega.co.nz being down a lot lately I have a copy hosted on my Dropbox:
                    https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/30499259/Feathercoin/cudaminer-2013-04-30.rar
And to run cudaminer.exe with the following arguements (best done in a batch file, which I’ve added to the above archive too)

                    cudaminer --url pooladdress:poolport --userpass username.worker:pass -s 5 -D

Sorry I can’t offer much more advice than this, I’ve not actually got the ability to play around with a Nivida GPU, bar one. And if required, I’ll try out that GPU for you tomorrow too.

Edit: It may be of some advantage and help to look here to see what sort of rates and configs people are using for your GPUs https://github.com/litecoin-project/litecoin/wiki/Mining-hardware-comparison#wiki-Nvidia_GPUs
