Fethercoin mineing

Hi, My brothers and me have decided to get into mining feathercoin. We want to set up a small farm. We just purchased 5 r9 280x to add to our graphic cards we all ready own. mainly 6 and 7 series. I think we someone around 6000 khash currently with plans of upgrading to 10000 by the end of the month. Have a few questions for people that have gone at this already. We are currently using coinotron but are open to a better pool or mining solo with all our hardware if there is a way to work on one block together. one thing i noticed about coinotron is it almost always reports a lower hash rate than cgminer and guiminer report. Any advice and wisdom would be much appreciated.
1. is it possible to use all are K hash power to work on a block?
2. what are some good rig configurations that are not based on high end gpus? we where thinking some 7850 rigs -
make sure you are having hardware errors in cgminer. That can contribute to a lower hashrate on the pool’s statistics.
