I thought this was interesting so grabbed a screenshot. Bitcoin was crashing quite harshly on Gox to the point where trade lag was over 10 minutes. Then the orders started jumping back up to $877 from $829 again and again. Someone reported that their order kept getting processed and then put back on the orderbook. Gox is looping through a set of orders and then doing it over again. Check the screen below.

I’m watching it too - so crazy.
Question is, where will it land at when it emerges into reality again?

Not sure but I expected this crash to be harsh. Bitcoin has been pushing upwards with too greater pressure and keeps flailing as a result. It has been struggling to maintain $1000+ and it only got there 9 days ago.

Looks more like panic buy time on GOX :) But who knows…

It’s their idiotic ‘crash stop feature’ again. If someone tries to sell too many at once, they rollback the trade, then execute it again in an infinite loop. It happened a few days ago, looks they did’t bother to fix it.

BTC looks like it’s a honey badger - back to 900.

‘crash stop feature’ sounds very odd. Well, it is recovering again. Next stop $98,500 apparently.

The NYSE has one too. It shuts down trading in case of a flash-crash.

I heard about it. They implemented this after some super fast and super big crash caused by bots?

                            Not bots actually.

June, 2011. The price went from $17 dollars to a single penny inside of a few minutes. They rolled back all the trades. An account was compromised with a lot of coins, and the hacker sold off all about half a million bitcoins so he could buy more of them back again for cheap before cashing out.

In 2011 GPU miners hadn’t been invented yet. But you were wasting your CPU. Had you spent even a few months mining in early 2011 you’d potentially be a millionaire today.
