\[design\] Feathercoin.com Website Redesign project \* Discusion
-
Some food for thought wrapper0feather. Alas my few days off work come to an end tonight, and xmas fast approaching I’m guessing much will go on the back burner till we are in to the new year.
Hopefully I can respond more to this post on Saturday. I’ve not had much experience of using tools like github but if it makes the changes happen fairly, more smoothly and efficiently then I am all for it.
Will get back to you soon.
-
I not sure what you mean by Feathercoin 2.0, but I am sure I didn’t play too much of a role if anything in it. Just don’t want to steal someone elses thunder.
:)

I think this could be an exciting development, it will go (very) fast enough if we set it up carefully.
All the best, I need a rest as well.
Remember normal times runs much slower than crypto!

I am not contributing with any opinion as there is too much opinions already.
This new page will be a disaster without 1 strong leader with sharp vision.
Let the democracy misunderstandings begin. #popcorn.
That’s why you split people up in to teams. Otherwise you end up with a tyrant doing things without the permission of the community. Something as important as this needs consensus even if it is messy.
Sometimes.
Sometimes, a single person can do the job of 100 if they’re just allowed to go untethered.
I’m reminded of the story of the toothpaste factory that had a problem shipping empty boxes to customers. Understanding how important that was, the CEO of the toothpaste factory got the top people in the company together and they decided to start a new project in which they would hire an external engineering company to solve their empty boxes problem, as their engineering department was already too stretched to take on any extra effort.
The project followed the usual process: budget and project sponsor allocated, RFP, third-parties selected, and six months (and $8 million) later they had a fantastic solution, on time, on budget, high quality and everyone in the project had a great time. They solved the problem by using some high-tech precision scales that would sound a bell and flash lights whenever a toothpaste box weighing less than it should. The line would stop, and someone had to walk over and yank the defective box out of it, pressing another button when done.
A while later, the CEO decides to have a look at the ROI of the project: amazing results! No empty boxes ever shipped out of the factory after the scales were put in place. Very few customer complaints, and they were gaining market share. “That’s some money well spent!†â€" he says, before looking closely at the other statistics in the report.
It turns out, the number of defects picked up by the scales was 0 after three weeks of production use. It should have been picking up at least a dozen a day, so maybe there was something wrong with the report. He filed a bug against it, and after some investigation, the engineers come back saying the report was actually correct. The scales really weren’t picking up any defects, because all boxes that got to that point in the conveyor belt were good.
Puzzled, the CEO travels down to the factory, and walks up to the part of the line where the precision scales were installed. A few feet before it, there was a $20 desk fan, blowing the empty boxes out of the belt and into a bin.
“Oh, that â€" one of the guys put it there ’cause he was tired of walking over every time the bell rangâ€, says one of the workers.
Now the argument might be made that if the expensive solution hadn’t prompted someone to solve the new problem, the old problem wouldn’t have been addressed, but it’s equally easy to argue that if you had just put this one guy in charge and let him go, unconstrained by the process that had been accepted by the rest of the team as “the way to do things”, the expensive solution might never have even been considered.
Design by committee can work when all the committee members are experts, and all of them are working towards the same goal. Unfortunately, that’s simply not the case here, and realizing that, there needs to be someone who is empowered to make decisions and have them stick despite what others may feel is right. The opinion of a single expert needs to outweigh the opinion of any number of laymen, because the expert knows better than the laymen… that’s what makes them an expert.

I really do think there has to be a place for this in the redesign.

It’s too good not to be included somewhere. All props to iawgoM. It’s amazing.

Kevlar, the solution to that is design by hive. Hive allows the solutions to slide from tyrant to mob without creating a parasite class of oligarchs.
How hive design works:
Once you understand a portion of a problem, you announce you will be solving that portion and leave the rest to others.
Others can decide to solve the same problem as long as the effort involved is less than the average difficulty of the whole problem.
What happens is: easy problems are cleaned up by individual elves, medium problems get multiple perspectives, difficult problems get multiple committees, which paradoxically leaves pain in the ass problems to individuals because everybody else is already busy.
Redundancy can be offset by the experience gained and as problems get solved the hive disbands back into the woodwork. -
Hmm…just one thing, and I’d like your advice about it - the background music…I don’t really have permission to use it, because first time I made this video there weren’t many people around here. But if you want this to be advertised a bit more, then I’ll have to change it…to something. Don’t wanna get sued or something :-[
Here you go!

Yeah, either that or someone could produce something simple for it. I have stuff I could give for this.
But it would be easier to use creative commons stuff but yeah. I was unaware of the music…
Youtube is starting to clamp down on copyright claims and content ID matches now, so I don’t blame you.
In regards to updating the music, I think the feature inside youtube allows you to swap out the audio for creative commons stuff (I think its CC… not 100%).
I’ve done it for my video’s in the past. Load your video then there should be an “Audio” button, a music note, directly under the vid. (Provided your logged into youtube)
But yeah, if you redo the audio from an external source, just upload it next to the old one and links can easily be changed etc.

Off to work… but a thought that came to mind last night…
Is it worth instigating a Github approach if we only have 2 or 3 folk who have expressed a direct wish to create and have a hands on approach to designing the new site? I feel the best route is to set up a WP or Joomla installation for each person wishing to design the new platform and then present them all to the community… then create a dialogue for moving forward.
Any thoughts?

Why don’t we crowdfund an advertising campaign? :)
I love this idea. 8) -
I think, the way to go is like:
- which functions are needed?
- Forum
- news area
- wiki
- faq
- Market???
- ???
- ???
- which platform to be used
- joomla
- Drumla?
- xxxx
- yyyy
- theme design to be used
- basic theme
- modifications
- customization
The status of the different action items could be updated in this thread, together with some examples, e.g preview of the layout and theme planned.
unfortunately I have no real idea, how the work could be spread :(

Why don’t you guys use Zoho? You can see and review things someone else made and keep things clear:
Very nice work iawgoM. While it’s always better to use royalty free stuff, I wouldn’t be too worried. If you have used some third party content, it will normally either go undetected and not cause a problem, or the owner can sent a notice to you which you can accept acknowledging the use of third party content. This will enable them to track the stats of the video, and maybe also ad some adverts to it.

Maybe it’s an idea to add a page named ‘myth busters’ and explain in detail (like in a FAQ) all the misunderstandings about ftc.

Hey, web design guys, Heeeelp…,
even I could do this if I could find time. We need to get Web control through Git hub, before updating much more of the Feathercoin.com
But, input proposed web page redesigns for the “About Page” updates and Entimp can look at them? or the forum can start discussion of details… Support is over run and the next influx (I predict) will be even bigger, with a higher proportion of cryto-newbies…
Mode of Failures
: New members can’t find downloads
: Some new members do not read or find the forum rules
: Some members ignore rules unless specifically policed.
: Some people have downloaded “old wallets” from other web sites.
: Stress volunteer moderator support
: More new members aren’t Geeks.Cause of Failure :
: Not obvious you have to press the Feathercoin icon, to download the software Wallet.
: Download is at the bottom of page, “About page”, so they are not easily visible to new members.
: Forum rules are not prominent enough
:New forum members have increased at a greater rate than even I predicted,
(and all due to the Feathercoin Team & forums, trustworthness and good work!, not scams, pumps or swarms!)Suggested possible Maintenance tasks:
: The forum “About box” page should be given a quick update, to help solve new member issues that have arisen.
: Software Downloads should be prominently at the top, maybe in a fixed frame, of the “About Page”.
: A brief outline, or a link to the full forum rules should be placed prominently in “About”
