I’m sorry boys and girls, it’s all down to the tuning and the way you do it 8)

I’ve had to learn the hard way, and I will post my answers when I get chance (currently using an iPad on wifi to post) with the screen shots to prove what I be discovered.

In the mean time post up your configs so we can see what we are comparing against

I use the same settings as for my 7970 gigabyte and I get a 750kh :

cgminer.exe --scrypt --worksize 256 -v 1 -g 2 -I 13,13,13,13 --gpu-engine 1075 --gpu-memclock 1500 --shaders 2048 --thread-concurrency 8192 --lookup-gap 2 --gpu-fan 100 --no-submit-stale

My rigs are in a basement. I don’t care about noise, but I want to reduce temp as low as possible to minimize the wear out.

Nice, I have one of these cards on order! Should be here in a day or two. It’s packed, but not yet shipped out.

I have two 7950’s going at 1.3Mh/s so with this new card I’m hoping to get a nice round 2Mh/s :)

Only issue will be, getting the new card to play nice with my old car, as I hear the thread count is 2 on the 280 and 1 on my 7950’s, hopefully get this working in BAMT well.

Also… my 750W PSU might not be able to handle it… wishing I got the 850W+… maybe with some under volting I can get by…

Cheers for sharing your settings mate! +1

Sorry for the delay guys, had some real work on, and then been having massive problems keeping it stable running 2 of these cards. I should deb back home later tonight to have a little more of a play and get you some answers.

You sure your running g=2, every time I upped this from 1 to 2 my rig would crash and reboot.

The simple answer to this is it won’t!! I’m doing the usual testing from my other thread, (still haven’t worked out the best way to present the answers) and a single 7970 & R9-280x Toxic at full tilt pull more than 750, and the 2 x R9-280x Toxic at 700Kh/s pull about 830W from what I can remember. so I was currently running mine at I=13 to get the hash rate to 500Kh/s and keep the power under 700W whilst new PSU comes in.

Yes i’m sure.
I have double checked, because I have several rigs : one with 7970s and one with 280x toxic.
I run the same command line on both.
Yes I use -g 2 with success.

For information, I use cgminer 3.3.1 and the latest catalyst drivers.

I just got my 280x toxic up and running in my rig (bamt) with my 2x 7950’s. Hopefully it last more than a few hours!

Still on my 750W so not pushing it yet. I can’t see to get it much above 550kh/s with anything I do. Running on the same settings as my two 7950’s right now.

Tried some of the recommended settings for the 280x without much luck. Is r = vectors? As my config has words rather than letters.

My mem clocks are down to 1150 as I didn’t notice any speed drop when i was configuring my 7950’s over the past few weeks. This is no doubt saving some power, and hopefully stable on my 750W for now.

edit: ahh: “gpu-threads” : “2”, …

That’s insane, my 7970 and R9 290 pull barely 600watts from the wall hashing at 1.6mh/s, are you running at stock voltage?

If you underclock/volt them correctly you can get down to about 180 watts per 7970/r9 280x…i can actually get 4x 7970/r9 280x on a 850 watt PSU…just don’t push the cards you you will blow it up as these can draw upwards of 300 watts.

I need to do a bit more research on under-volting, as I don’t understand how it works, or how to achieve it.

I know there’s
“gpu-powertune” : “n,n”
In the cgminer.conf file, but I’m yet to learn what parameters to put in for “n” I’ve tried a couple of things and they seamed to make no difference, maybe the Toxic’s are locked? any help gratefully received.

My 2x 7950 and 1 x R280 survived the night on my 750W (not optimal settings) Will tune some more when I get the chance.

Wow the R280 pumps out a lot of heat!

Yeah I think keeping the mem clock down a lit, and lowering the voltage will reduce the power consumption. I’m running BAMT off a USB stick, so no wasted juice there.

Unfortunately to run the trixx software to change my voltage is windows only. I found linux http://sourceforge.net/projects/amdovdrvctrl/ which might work.
