I’m new to mining anything. Haven’t even started bitcoin mining. And I dabbled a little in over the last couple days with litecoin, but that’s REALLY FREAKING slow going.

I just reconfigured the mining sw to mine feathercoin. I am looking for advice on building a rig on the cheap. but I’m afraid I will have to dole out a few hundred bux first.

Any advice you have is appreciated. Also, I see some folks mining more than one type of coin, any thoughts on that?

Most people here will be supporting multiple coins.

Bitcoin and Litecoin have plenty of miners supporting them so most here will be focusing on the other SCRYPT coins. Feathercoin, Worldcoin, Phoenixcoin, Dogecoin, Catcoin etc. (Not an exhaustive list and not necessarily true for everyone here.)

Have a dig through the Mining section here http://forum.feathercoin.com/index.php/board,2.0.html also the support and guides section can be helpfull too. There’s all the reading one can handle.

Here’s a link for GPU’s https://litecoin.info/Mining_hardware_comparison (Graphics Cards) which tell you about how fast they can run. Litecoin and all the mentioned coins in this reply (With the exception of Bitcoin which is SHA-256) are Scryptcoins. So the speeds for litecoin are the same for all other Scryptcoins.

Minings an interesting area to study, and very satisfying when you get everything going.

It can also be disturbing if everything blows up, so be very careful to read as much as you can on what it’s all about.

As Calem says, we have extensive mining guides and threads with previously solved problems and pointers.
