To remember the fallen from the first world war. It started 100 years ago today.

      Lest we forget.

I did mine. The inconvienence of feeding the floor rather than the cat doesn’t do justice to the enormity of loss of human life.

My great-grandfather was fighting during whole WWI and he survived it.

I was always amazed how lucky he was, shot 3 times in total during whole period.

My great grandfather was hit by shrapnel from a shell and returned to England for treatment before being sent back to the front and never returned. A terrible war.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
                In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
                In Flanders fields.

                John McCrae, May 1915
