Energy usage of Bitcoin

I see there is some fud about POW energy usage with Bitcoin currently. Awaiting any updates of what happens with that.
However, there are solutions to this problem, should current balances not continue beyond the coins set-up period. For, instance, disk space algorithms can be used to encrypt the blocks at very low energy. The disadvantage would be a fork, or other coin becoming the most efficient.

I think, changing to another way to mine coins is the long term solution.
It may be POS, or a disk space based algorithm, or may be even a lottery kind of algorithm, where miners register and get ‘slots’ to mine a block based on pure luck.
