    • What Feathercoin offers with links and explanations

Feathercoin Under the Hood (how it operates)

NeoScrypt Algorithm - This is the algorithm used in solving a block (aka mining) and is then instrumental in moving from one set of currency transactions in the block chain to the next. A white paper is available at http://phoenixcoin.org/archive/neoscrypt_v1.pdf - and the implementation is at https://github.com/ghostlander/NeoScrypt

Current Generation ASIC resistance - The NeoScrypt algorithm is designed to use enough resources, in this case memory, such that current ASICs cannot mine Feathercoin. ASICs are a dedicated circuit board to just mine coins. Creating a dedicated circuit board to mine feathercoin would take considerable investment. For a little more detail at http://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/2156/why-ftc-is-asic-resistent-for-beginners-requesting-feedback

Advanced Checkpointing - This is a method used to prevent network attacks on the currency. Details are provided at http://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/2709/advanced-checkpointing-released there is also more information in the feathercoin wallet guide https://wrapperband.github.io/FeathercoinWalletGuide/#advanced-checkpointing-acp

336,000,000 Total Coins - Eventually there will be 336 million coins in circulation. This will be pretty close to done around the year 2121 (see schedule below)

1 minute target block time - This is the average amount of time it takes for a block to be mined and transactions to appear in your wallet. The software constantly adjusts the mining difficulty to keep this time consistent as mining intensity varies. Look here for a deeper explanation of block time https://steemit.com/bitcoin/@ghayas/what-does-block-time-mean-in-cryptocurrency

enhanced Hash Rate Compensation - This is a method of adjusting the difficulty of the calculation the miners must do to find a block. Difficulty is adjusted based on the speed the blocks are being found on the network and should increase as the hash power of the miners increases. eHRC uses the time it took the last 15, 120 and 480 blocks to be solved and calculates (re-targets) the difficulty after every block using that data. Difficulty in general is explained at https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Difficulty a full write up on the details of eHRC can be found in the feathercoin wallet guide at https://wrapperband.github.io/FeathercoinWalletGuide/#enhanced-hash-rate-compensation-ehrc

20 coins per block (currently) - Each feathercoin block that is mined pays the miner 20 feathercoins. Every 4 years the amount paid is cut in half. (see schedule below) details at http://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/6847/block-reward-adjustment

Block halving every 2,100,000 blocks - As more and more of the feathercoin currency gets in circulation the payout of the solving a block (ie mining) is decreased. 21 million blocks is a few days short of 4 years. The intent is that miners get paid for the work in both transaction fees and from the network putting currency in circulation. As time progresses and the distribution of the source currency dries up the transaction fees become the main source of income for miners. Details on the concept can be found here https://academy.binance.com/en/glossary/halving

OmniLayer functionality - OmniFeather has been released https://github.com/OmniLayer/omnicore/releases which adds OmniLayer functionality to the Feathercoin blockchain. This allows for the creation of additional assets on the Feathercoin blockchain other than the native feathercoin. Assets can be either managed or have a fixed supply, can be introduced via crowdsale and exchanged via a decentralised exchange built into the OmniFeather protocol.

Default Feathercoin network port is 9336 - The whole Feathecoin cryptocurrency network for sending coins around and exchanging blocks runs on this port. You can retrieve the peer to peer information on various sites like this one https://www.coinexchange.io/network/peers/FTC

Default RPC mining port is 9337 - This is the port that is used by mining software to communicate via Remote procedure call (rpc) to a server when doing mining. Checkout the solo mining thread for an example of its use http://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/9058/guide-solo-mining-for-feathercoin-and-neoscrypt

      What features are available

Comments - Comments can be added to transactions. The technical details for reading them are available here http://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/8640/faq-how-to-read-comments-from-the-feathercoin-blockchain further information about comments can be found here in the feathercoin wallet guide https://wrapperband.github.io/FeathercoinWalletGuide/#comments-in-the-feathercoin-blockchain

Coin control - The coin control feature allows you to control how you spend the coins in your wallet when sending a transaction. You can choose what addresses will be the ones sending the coins and which of the coins you have received will be used. The wallet interface details for this can be found here https://wrapperband.github.io/FeathercoinWalletGuide/#options-menu---wallet-tab

      Setting up a wallet

download the software - To use feathercoin you just need software to handle receiving coins to a generated address (created by the wallet) . The same software allows you then send the coins to another address. Links are on the main page of the site at https://www.feathercoin.com/ or from github at https://github.com/FeatherCoin/Feathercoin/releases/

Setting up a server to do e-commerce and feathercoin block chain actions

Feathercoin rest API - the feathercoin.com site has rest APIs available for full documentation see https://www.feathercoin.com/feathercoin-api/

Payment Gateway Software from gourl.io - Their site has a number of live samples and code examples on how to do commerce with their payment gateway software. Many currencies including feathercoin are supported. They have code in php and .net available (they even have a nuget package). Their site is at https://gourl.io/ and a 3rd party forum discussing them can be found at https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1043437.0

Implementing your own - If you are going to start from scratch the best place to get example code for technical reference is from the feathercoin wallet software. The code is in C++ https://github.com/FeatherCoin/Feathercoin . You can ask for further assistance in the technical development forum area https://forum.feathercoin.com/category/71/technical-development

      OmniFeather

What is the Omni Layer - The Omni Layer is a communications protocol that uses the Feathercoin block chain to enable Smart Properties (tokens) and a Decentralized Exchange. A common analogy that is used to describe the relation of the Omni Layer to Feathercoin is that of HTTP to TCP/IP: HTTP, like the Omni Layer, is the application layer to the more fundamental transport and internet layer of TCP/IP, like Feathercoin.

What is OmniFeather - OmniFeather is a fast, portable Omni Layer implementation that is based off the Feathercoin codebase. This implementation requires no external dependencies extraneous to Feathercoin, and is native to the Feathercoin network just like other Feathercoin nodes. It currently supports a wallet mode and is seamlessly available on three platforms: Windows, Linux and MacOS. Omni Layer extensions are exposed via the JSON-RPC interface. Development has been consolidated on the OmniFeather product, and it is the reference client for the Omni Layer.

Compatibility with Feathercoin - OmniFeather is based on Feathercoin 0.18.4 and can be used as replacement for Feathercoin. Switching between Omni Core and Feathercoin may be supported. However, it is not advised to upgrade or downgrade to versions other than Feathercoin 0.18.4. When switching to OmniFeather , it may be necessary to reprocess Omni Layer transactions.

NFT in OmniFeather - Create managed non-fungible tokens or conventional divisible / indivisible tokens with a fixed or managed supply.

Omnifeather on github - The project is located at https://github.com/OmniLayer/omnifeather

Download the software - The releases are available for download at https://github.com/OmniLayer/omnifeather/releases

      OmniFeather Usage

Feather Dex - A decentralized exchange exists on the OmniLayer network allowing people to exchange feathercoin for tokens without using a 3rd party exchange. While the exchange is available via text commands in omnifeather featherdex provides a more user friendly experience. The code is located at https://github.com/featherdex/featherdex an open source package (currently in alpha) .

Feather - This is a USD to Feathercoin Token where the token value is fixed at $1 US Dollar. Information is available at https://featherdollar.com/ . The tokens are currently available via the decentralized exchange.

Halving dates are a best guess and will need to be recalculated from time to time as the block times vary slightly. They are targeted at 1 minute per block but the average tends to run a few seconds more over time. It is possible for this to go lower than 1 minute as well as chance plays a factor.

These dates were calculate on feb 9th 2021 using 64.9 seconds per block which was a the block time average from that date back to the previous halving date. Ideally you would just look at block counts. the July 2017 block was 1793040 and every 2100000 after that it will be cut in half.

      Legacy features

These are only available in Feathercoin-qt version 0.9.6.2.

Paper Wallet - A paper wallet is a document that contains copies of the public and private keys that make up a wallet. Often it will have QR codes, so that you can quickly scan them and add the keys into a software wallet to make a transaction. The feathercoin wallet provides an interface for you to get hold of the necessary keys to create one details are here https://wrapperband.github.io/FeathercoinWalletGuide/#paper-wallet-menu as well as here http://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/8650/faq-how-can-i-generate-a-feathercoin-paper-wallet-online an online tool for creating the actual paper wallet can be found here https://walletgenerator.net/?currency=Feathercoin

Stealth Addresses - Stealth Addresses are used to keep wallet to wallet transfers hidden from others despite being in a publicly available block chain. Details are available here http://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/8609/faq-feathercoin-wallet-advanced-feature-stealth-addresses the feature can be found here in the feathercoin wallet guide https://wrapperband.github.io/FeathercoinWalletGuide/#stealth-addresses

Multi Signature Address - A multi-sig address is a special kind of public key address. it has more than one private key. This means that you can create an address which no individual person can spend money from, but which instead requires every signer to agree before a payment can be made. details on using it can be found here http://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/7870/guide-how-to-use-feathercoins-multi-signature-address-page the feature can be found here in the feathercoin wallet guide https://wrapperband.github.io/FeathercoinWalletGuide/#multisig-button

    • RE: FTC Price Prediction END OF 2018

gosh i would have hoped for 20 cents at end of the year back in july. now, its hard to know. i think as soon as we break 1 dollar USD , 1 of 2 things i going to happen. We will seem relevant in a lot of peoples eyes and the price will spike (after all its all perception), or we will stay more or less locked in our steady climb as volume fixes our valuation.

On a side note: Our valuation against bitcoin (or lite coin) is really really low. if should be trading at .0625 BTC (or nearing it as the move closer to having the same % of coins in the market) if adoption was the same everywhere. so that being said the 0.00003351 it is right now is about 1800xs LOWER than it would otherwise be.

Think about that for a second. if we were adopted like but coin right this second 1 feathercoin would be worth. $625 (@ 10,000 btc ( … I could retire … uh and like build a rocket or something :) ))

to get there, what we really need is another big exchange to pick it up and get trading done there (someone a little more on the ball than cryptopia heh). or possibly a place like coinbase offering it so you can do straight USD purchase/selling. (and possibly one in the yen… really any strong fiat currency would be nice) bittylicious is a nice start but they just dont seem to hold enough/get enough traffic (probably cause of the low interest) .

that being said $1 is a fine guess

    • I guess, i'm new... again?

      Hey everyone,
I haven’t posted in ages (years) but I periodically watch feathercoin’s activity (i’m in it for the long… long … long haul). And like any good fair weather fan I started reading up on happenings on the board since the price has been climbing to see what kind of activity there has been. I went to respond to one the threads and Lo! I can’t! i guess this was done to stop spammers. I’m not really sure what more to say, I just want to be able to reply to posts in the forums so i’m here posting :)

food for thought, it would be neat if there was a nuget package so you could integrate feathercoin to your visual studio projects easily. i think that would really help people develop their own wallet portals and feed the kind of ecommerce in feather coin we would like to see.

“why don’t you write one?” I would want it for a site that I was working on first… alas i have no such site.

    • RE: Feathercoin's future price

so speculating on the future is fun. The market place for crypto currencies is changing all the time and it makes historical prices a pretty poor reference point. any extrapolation you do is… well not going to be right. That being said. lets do some!

      first block from
      https://bitinfocharts.com/bitcoin/

      feathercoin 2013-04-16 - 1543 days
      litecoin 2011-10-08 - 2099 days
      bitcoin 2013-04-16 - 3101 days

if everything were equal (it’s not) we should be able to look at the value x days out and divide by 4 from litecoin or 16 from bitcoin. of course run ups on price completely destroy this model, but again lets do it anyway.

      first right now. (https://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/xxxx/)
      at day 1543

      feathercoin today - $0.067957 - 0.00002694 bitcoin

      litecoin 2015-12-29 - $3.47 - 0.00818907 bitcoin
      adjusted $0.8675 - 0.0020472675 … feathercoin vs litecoin 7.83% - 1.3159%

      bitcoin 2013-04-01 - $4.88 - 1 bitcoin (https://99bitcoins.com/price-chart-history/)
      adjusted $0.305 - 0.0625 bitcoin … feathercoin vs bitcoin 22.28% - 0.043104%

feather coin is tracking down from both historical prices. bitcoin’s case is just crazy as a comparison point, but in both cases the big take away is its conversion to bitcoin. people do not value it as 1/16th or 1/4th of the two currencies. for litecoin it has 1.31% the bitcoin value of litecoin… and .043104% of the expected value compared to bit coin. this shows how much the market value has increased in general and how poorly received feathercoin currently is (since ideally the number would be 100% if it was equivilent to bitcoin)

Now lets skip ahead 6 months 1 year to see where like litecoin and bit coin ended up.

      –6 months–
      litecoin 2016-06-29 - $4.10 - 0.00637223 bitcoin
      adjusted $1.025 - 0.0015930575

      bitcoin 2013-10-01 - $133.03 - 1 bitcoin
      adjusted $33.2575 - 0.0625 bitcoin

      –1 year–
      litecoin 2016-12-29 - $4.56 - 0.00467491 bitcoin
      adjusted $1.14 - 0.0011687275

      bitcoin 2014-04-01 - $458.09 - 1 bitcoin
      adjusted $114.5225 - 0.0625 bitcoin

again, It’s tough to draw any extrapolation from these numbers. partly cause its only 3 data points, but mainly cause crypto-currency is still in its infancy for being adopted and used for commerce. So spikes/speculation and media hype and general adoption are widely varying the price from currency to currency.

so there ya go. fun to look at but its usefulness is pretty darn limited. i’ll leave you with this; IF feathercoin was suddenly adopted like either litecoin or bitcoin and had the same valuation increase as 2013-10-01 and 2014-04 bit coin did. it’s values would be

      litecoin
      feathercoin 2018-01-07 - $0.08

      feathercoin 2018-07-07 - $0.09

      bitcoin
      feathercoin 2018-01-07 - $7.41

      feathercoin 2018-07-07 - $25.52

      lets hope we track closer to bitcoins growth :}

if you want to take an active roll in marketing the coin to the masses, i would start up a new thread (or join chime in on an old one) in either feathercoin discussion or in projects. it looks like someone else was thinking about it 3 months ago http://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/9242/online-marketing.

      @adun-d hi and welcome

Development seems to be going well. (yay bushstar, wrapper, wellenereiter, acidD and others) I’ve been woefully uninvolved due to limits on my time but they (bushstar and the others) are actively developing/testing the next release.

In terms of marketing plans, we don’t (its a community, you are involved too!) have any plans i know of… Sure there may be someone out there with plans but i don’t about about know it.

when you show/hide from the tray. do you actually get the task bar icon? if so click on it and hit alt-space. this will open the windows menu (where ever it is off screen) and then you can hit ‘m’ this will put it in “move” mode you can then use the arrows to move the window till its on screen. or hold down the mouse button once you have done that and move the mouse it should also move the window around (try this on a normal unhidden window (like chrome or something) to see what i’m talking about) hopefully its just off screen and you can get it to show up that way.

      hi! welcome!

I made a thread… about 2 years ago that gives a lot of explanation. That’s probably the best place to go (all your information in one spot https://forum.feathercoin.com/topic/9390/what-feathercoin-offers-with-links-and-explanations ) I’ve tried to keep up to date so it should still be completely valid.

the developers apparently dont use the forum to much these days so its pretty quite here, but if you have any questions or comments be sure and ask.

So I was gonna reply to the old thread

Re: Machine Learning and A.I. predictions for 2018

but i figured it was off the rails enough and old enough by now to warrant a new thread (and truly i had to re-read the beginning and didn’t even remember most of the thread at all!)

anyway I wanted to share some of my exploits. I don’t do much data mining development these days, the basics are kinda cracked and discoveries are far and few in-between. Though i probably should work some more on t-sne… a 3-4 year old project that sits idle for months and months at a time.

data mining is a lot like data compression if you will. there is only so much information to be gleamed from a data set. and most of the basics seem very well explored and understood. the trick is generally framing the question right. that’s not to say its solved, but there seem to be far less discoveries and new research these days.

A.I. is not to far behind but that’s a different beast (reinforcement learning that is).

Annnnyway the reason i decided to post here was to share how succesful i’ve been after all these years. (shameless plug inbound) I started integrating with collective2.com a few tears back (i mentioned it quandl and stocks in the other thread) and have gotten to a point where i’m moderately successful! (if you can call 30% gain in 6 months successful) now i dont know if it’ll last. i hope it does, but i might re-read this in 2 years and say “ah that was the beginning of the end.” or maybe, “ah those were simpler times. that fund doesnt even exist anymore” anyway, if you have a mind check it out. I’m pretty pleased with the results thus far.

note that, there are actually 2 other funds I have that are marked private I just transformed in to versions of this one. i’m still seeing if i can outperform this. mainly they are selecting from the same pool of target stocks, but either more picky, more greedy or making fewer/larger investments. regardless this one is doing pretty well right now :)

Binance and Huobi are their source of exchange information. If either picks up FTC I would imagine there is no reason they wouldnt list FTC but that would probably be an internal decision by them.

wallet says it is 2 years and 51 weeks

if you aren’t on the newest version i would certainly do that first… if you are, maybe resync from 0 by deleting the block chain data. this is the point where i tell you how to do that… but dont actually know. i’d say just delete the files for the blockchain data but that’s probably a poor/bad way to do it.

(so yeah if someone else can chime in)

    • RE: Coins from 2013 or 2014

@metaLand i had some weird issues getting a new wallet working on my machine. (i wanted an hd wallet) i ended up just using a separate wallet file which i change to after the block chain is synced. it’s a little bit clunky but at this point i dont want to mess with it. you might try that if you have the backup. i honestly don’t remember how i got it to show up in the file > open wallet selection. anyone out there able to say?
