The syncing “problem” is finding the first Feathercoin node, to start the p2peer network. As Bitcoin and Litecoin have slightly larger networks, they now sync quicker. One solution I have found, if someone has a problem is to PM them a current addnode for the debug console.

LTC and BTC use the same Bitcoin protocol. It has not been a specific problem with Feathercoin, so far.

The syncing “problems” seem just to be about finding an initial peer. I think these “problems” / reports may resolve as the network expands.

One successful solution is to pass an known current addnode to the user. I did this by personal message so IPs weren’t exposed on the forum.

you could check the log file and see, if the walltet tries to connect and gets timeouts.
If that is the case , it may be a problem with your routing or firewall settings.

the log file is reachable via the debug menu of the wallet

I just created a virtual machine running ubuntu 13.10 and found out that during the install of the package I got from http://software.opensuse.org/package/feathercoin that the system complained and refused to install, as there seems to be a conflict.

I start working on that and will come back to you as soon as my Ubuntu package is installing fine. That will take a day or two, but hopefully not any longer

I have heard a couple of people with similar errors one option is just to restart the client if it freezes like this.
Another is to use the rescan option via the command screen but I have never done this myself.

Seems the page has loaded correctly as the iframe is present. Try CTRL and F5 to force the browser to reload the page in full and in another browser if you can.

I’m also not sure but I think the map api will use some form of java script. Do you have Javascript turned on for your browser.

Let me know if the problem still occurs and I will try to debug it more. The map works for me on Firefox build 25.0.1

if you use cgminer or bfgminer you need to enable CPU mining during the configure step, when compiling the code. check the configure script in the source directory to find the parameter to be set.

Also I noticed, that at least bfgminer doesn’t do CPU mining, if it finds a GPU,what makes sense, as you can expect a hash rate of around 1.2 -1.5 khash only for cpumining, while any GPU gives hash rates of 10-600 khash,so that the additional hashes comming from CPU mining are less than the variance you have in the hash rates comming from GPU mining.

But If you add a new Address, you have to backup it again, otherwise 1 backup should be fine.
This is not true. Infact, you actually don’t have to backup the wallet.dat at all if you don’t want to as long as you have the private key (but I advise you to have a couple copies of it anyway).
Wait, how is that not true exactly? When you add a new address, you’re adding the private key to the wallet. If you don’t have that private key (which you won’t, because you used the “New Address” feature), and you lose the wallet, you’ll lose any coins sent to that address.

The caveat to this is when the client pulls the private key from the pool, of which the client also pulls from for change addresses. So if you back up your wallet, and you make 100 new addresses, or you make 100 transactions on existing addresses, or any combination thereof, you’ll need to back up your wallet again.

That’s why HD keys are the best bet: You back up your HD seed once, and you can always regenerate the addresses.

Thanks for confirming and replying so quickly! Very much appreciated!

As for the sync thing I’m not at home so that must be it. I’ll have to wait until I get home on Sunday. However I plugged my phone in and it started syncing straight away. Yay! I didn’t let it finish as I didn’t want to max out my monthly data cap. But it works, and that eases my mind a lot.

      Thanks again!

You can hover your mouse over the transaction for a couple seconds in the wallet and it will show you.
