      ATTN All Miners:

Planning on building a couple of rigs and getting into a mining pool. Here is what I’m looking at purchasing for my first mining rig:

      2 - PowerColor AXR9 280X 3GBD5-DHE Radeon R9 280X 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card
      1 - GIGABYTE GV-R928XOC-3GD REV2 Radeon R9 280X 3GB 384-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready Video Card
      1 - ASUS P8Z77 WS LGA 1155 Intel Z77 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
1 - PC Power & Cooling Silencer Mk III Series 750W Modular Power Supply features 100% Nippon Chemi-Con Capacitors compatible …
      1 - Intel Core i3-3240 Ivy Bridge 3.4GHz LGA 1155 55W Dual-Core Desktop Processor …
      1 - Kingston 4GB 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 Desktop Memory Model KVR16N11S8/4
1 - SanDisk SDSSDP-064G-G25 2.5" 64GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
      1 - LITE-ON DVD Burner - Bulk Black SATA Model iHAS124-04 - OEM

      Putting it all in a:
1 - Thermaltake Overseer RX-I VN700M1W2N Black Steel / Plastic ATX Full Tower Computer Case

Plan on running Windows 7 Pro with (cgminer?). Should run around $2000 for this.

Questions are: Is this too much? Will this work? How many KH/s am I looking at?

      • I saw somewhere that I could get about 725KH/s for each card.

Give me your thoughts, plan is to mine FTC only. Thanks!
      [/quote]

      my opinions…

lose the i-3 and 1155 for an AM3+ sempron and board… money saved

lose the dvd drive… money saved

lose the 64gb ssd for a 32gb… money saved

lose the case for a workbench case which will give you openair… this way you can stick a boxfan on it. things will get very hot for a 24/7 miner

add another 4 gb of ram

each of those cards will burn 300 watts easy. that will make 900 watts. 900 > 750. 1200 - 1500watt for expansion. There is tons of recommendations on seasonics (1250watt). You NEVER want to go cheap on the mobo or PSU. Those are as important as your cards.

its cheap enough and i do it just in case. I had a few machines give me weird errors that went away when i increased it to 8. I also disable my paging file because of SSD which leads to more memory required.

cant say on the xfx. but there are a few mixed reviews on them.

case is nice but openair is best. i promise! I really like this case above. i have modded it for my config. see below for example.

How much are you paying for the 7970s? The XFX 7970s can be a bit of a struggle to get above 700KH/s there are a lot of posts on poor performing XFX 7970s hashing scrypt.

$499.99 I would have purchased something different but this is the only thing that was in stock that would have high rates. I did read some of the reviews and hopefully they can be good for me.

Just got an Auto-notification 30 minutes ago for a R9 280X. Just checked and it’s already out of stock. Crazy!

                            soo getting 600khash from em
should be 750 but then again its xfx(hate em, and think theres a reason they are still in stock) fans on all my xfx 7970 died after 1-2months. and max i could pull was 600khash each.

gotta say im amazed that they dont overheat there. whats your card temp?

Pretty much. I’ve got the top pushing a little over 700, middle around 650, and the lower a little bit less. Probably will put a box fan to get a little more air but the wife wouldn’t let me steal it out of our room last night. It dropped temps 5 Celsius each card when I tried it.
