Crowdfunded Awareness Campaign- the key to overtaking BTC?
-
Instead of posting a new post every time (yes, I am doing it right now but this is the last time!) I have decided to simply edit the original post for updates. Stay tuned and keep on voting! So far it looks like an overwhelming majority would support an Awareness Campaign, excellent! Another prime example of the community’s spirit, thank you all!

Hi there,
My thoughts… The key to it will be the global media coverage that the advert gets as well as the adverts themselves. Although the billboard will get lots of views the legacy will be the coverage it gets on TV and in newspapers and the footprint they leaves behind on the internet. Having some really good photo’s and a good press release will definitely get some coverage! I suspect the number of people that heard about the bitcoin billboards substantially outnumber the number of people that physically saw the bitcoin billboards.
Looking forward to seeing the quote!. These Greeks paid £12,000 for 2 weeks crowd souring the slot, and I found the footprint with a google 1 year later : http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/travelnews/9867091/Greeks-unite-to-fund-Piccadilly-Circus-billboard.html
£12,000 is only 1000 people doing £10 each :-)

I think it would be good to point out that by just giving everyone you basically encounter a nice FTC android wallet set up and give them 5 FTC, that could get a little ball rolling… I think I’ll just start out by giving it to everyone I know though :P
And 12000 pounds is a pretty nice chunk of good ol’ worthless fiat… Maybe we could convince them to take it in FTC and have a few miners donate some Kh/s for that? If such a well known and respected advertising agency would be willing to ‘get in’, that would be a pretty nice bonus… :D
Just thinking out loud here people, let the ideas flow. Like feathers on a warm long summer night when a gentle breeze picks them up and gently blows them in your face. FTC is pure poetry dammit! :P

I agree with you, raising awareness is one thing we need to do.
Another part is being able to do something with your feathers.
I had this idea about organising “feather-parties”. A party where everything is paid with cryptocoins. No cash allowed!
Of course feathers are the best for this, since they are bitcoin 3.0, imagine waiting 10 mins for your beer? Ow yheah, your payment is confirmed… yheah right.
But this would require making payments very easy with a smartphone. Maybe with a bill with an NFC tag (which can be reused)? How cool would that be.In conclusion: awareness + usefulness!

I think it would be best if a really reputable community member would create a FTC adress to receive and monitor the donations. Maybe we could put up the FTC adress at the homepage to generate some extra donations? I also think we should start further research as to the costs of advertising elsewhere, maybe multiple places at a time (thinking bus stops, “normal” highway billboards, etc?). If you can do anything for us SkullandHeadphones, that would be awesome.
I am currently still awaiting a response from the Piccadilly Lights people, but I think we should keep all our options open. Maybe it would be more effective if we plastered all bus and underground stops in London with advertisement instead of just one place, maybe the fact that so many tourists walk by Piccadilly will have more of an impact on global scale then local advertisement, I don’t know. So I think we should not only chip in Feathers, also ideas!
What do you think people? Do more people have connections in the advertising business? Any suggestions as to where we should direct our (initial) campaign? Keep it up now :)
I also want to tell you all that I have 2 weeks of (educational) deadlines, tests and projects ahead of me, so I will not be able to do very much. I will of course keep in touch about the Piccadilly Lights pricing, and it’s not like I won’t have any time at all, just hoping that more people will pick up the spirit so we can launch something nice somewhere in the (hopefully near) future!

Talking about Feathercoin awareness,
I saw this article on cryptocoinnews about Next http://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/2014/01/17/whats-nxt-world-cryptocurrencies/
Article about Feathercoin would be great on cryptonews or coindesk with special attention for Link. -
This is a payment method with SMS with bristolpound (community currency). Is something like this technically possible with crypto? http://bristolpound.org/howtxt2pay
I’d be happy to sign up for this responsibility. I can even produce a Javascript widget that will show the current wallet balance if you like. Let me know if this is desirable.

Kevlar, that sounds awesome. Creating full transparancy regarding the donations is a top priority here and a widget like that can provide just that. It could even ignite the fire of enthusiasm when people see we are actually raising a nice amount of money, pushing them to consider a small donation as well! :D
I also think we can all agree on the fact you are a trusted and reputable member of the community, although if any objections exist, please voice them people! :) Otherwise, I would say go for it.Small update regarding the advertising agencies: I haven’t heard back from Piccadilly Lights yet (which kind of bewonders me, not the way I would conduct business with a future customer… But what do I know? I’m not a professional I guess…) but I did receive an enthusiastic email from SignKick, saying they would gladly give a quick demo of their platform. Apart from their pro-business attitude that some advertising companies seem to lack (*coughing*) they seem to be more in our (expected) price range (although, if some whale decides to support the cause that might change completely!) and when I think about it, having the future of transactions plastered on busstops, billboards, streetpanels, etc. doesn’t sound to shabby to me.
If someone wants to take a look: http://www.signkick.co.uk/
As previously mentioned, I am really busy ATM, but let’s keep up the vibe people, I think we can really do something here!

Maybe this would be a good home for some of the outcome from this?

*BUMP?*
Now I admit I haven’t done much in the past few days, but after this week I’ll be back in the game!
To give a small update, I haven’t heard back from our Piccadilly friends at all. I haven’t had the time to contact any other advertising company so currently, not much going on.
Kevlar generously offered to set up a FTC adress for the donations and create a small widget for it, but as he is currently heavily involved in the FTClover case, I don’t expect him to be able to dedicate time to that at this moment in time.If we want to make this work we need some action people! We need advertising companies, we need designs for the ad’s, etc. etc.
Get involved! :D

What a great thread and some cool ideas 8)
I’m up for helping in anyway I can - I was toying with creating a sort of FTC-POS system to allow merchants to accept FTC in an intuitive way, but struggling with the ‘time’ aspect of it - you cant keep your customers hanging around for the confirms to come rolling in lol.
Keep up the energy though ;D
UKMark has written an SMS wallet application which could be a big plus for users without a smartphone or even apple/iOS users.
I think all of this stuff is great. The enthusiasm and and excitement is simply intoxicating so count me in.
I agree tho it may be early for full on advertising but if we can get some small scale infrastructure for businesses to start accepting feathercoin and we all pick one local business to try and talk to then its the grass route level we can start with.
We need the project making leaflets for merchants to be complete and maybe some businesses cards we can hand out to local businesses while we are there would be a good start. I guess if we all did this and only one retailer started doing it that’s a huge step forward.
I think if we can convince a business to start accepting FTC and maybe even selling it for fiat it could be a reliable local version of local-feathercoins and amazing advertising.
Small steps but worth while. I know a couple of local bars that I could approach and a sandwich shop round the corner but I would want some back up of decent hand outs and real info to leave behind. Also if we could tell the businesses that We would be advertising or all least helping to advertise them that could help.
And breathe!

Have plenty of friends who are looking into cryptos and redirected them here instead.
They keep asking about Bitcoin and I’m like Nooo! You can’t mine Bitcoins with your GPU! Forget it!Go Feathercoin! 8)
