mining on windows
-
I haven’t done this for a years and previously I am sure I used “ccminer”.
I am running windows 7 with an ati 5850. was just interested what mining rate i could mine on this gpu.
1.) I’ve downloaded “minerx” and oracle JRE. it sits there indefinitely with “getting grafik card series” - is there any pre requisites, I can’t find any documentation on github
2.) nsgminer states to look at the windows build text, i do not see one at all, is there one?
3.) Is there a nice point and click miner, I was looking at sgminer and it has a ton of dependencies, which I can do if I really have to, but was looking for a nice one liner I can just run. That’s what I did back in the day
thank you

Hi @digga
1 - download nsgminer from here
https://github.com/ghostlander/nsgminer/releases/download/nsgminer-v0.9.3/nsgminer-win64-0.9.3.zip2 - extract it to a folder on your desktop
3 - make a .bat file inside that same folder
4 - edit your bat file with notepad or some other text editor and use something like this:
setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100 setx GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1 nsgminer.exe --neoscrypt -g 1 -w 64 -I 15 -o stratum+tcp://POOLURL:PORT -u workername.1 -p x
5 - double click your .bat file to run it
the above you’d need to edit and add your pool as well as your worker name…this changes …and depends on weather you’re mining on P2pool or using a centralised pool like Give-Me-Coins
I hope this helps.

Thanks Acid, I tried nsgminer yesterday and got the following
All devices disabled, cannot mine!
When i tried version 0.9.2 - the app just crashes.

hmmm that could be a driver issue you need to install the AMD OpenCL drivers as well as others like the AMD SDK etc
-
nsgminer -k neoscrypt_vliwp -g 1 -w 128 -I 13
Should do better on a HD58x0

i’ve now installed AMD openCl drivers, AMD SDK and it still comes back with “All devices disabled, cannot mine!”
Any ideas?

@digga Its a driver error. You need to downgrade to 14.7 RC3 I believe.
-
@chekaz ah alright, if that’s the reason I think i’ll leave it :)
thanks
-
@digga Its worth having a go (trying differn’t drivers). It’s really the tricky part of getting mining going on Windows or Linux … The hardest thing is finding the driver and then then all reboots installing it.
Make sure you boot to safe mode and run the ati / amd clean-up utility, before installing the driver.

If mining with older cards on Windows 7/8, use either v15.7.1 if you also do some regular work there or v14.7 RC3 if just mining.
-
@ghostlander Thanks. I’ve downgraded the driver to give it a whirl.
This suggests a hash rate of 43 ?

-
Very good with such old card, basic settings and such temp.
-
@digga Should be higher. Delete old *.bin files after changing the drivers or OpenCL SDK. You can also try the neoscrypt_vliw kernel with an increased intensity.
-
@ghostlander what .bin files are you referring to ?
-
@digga Compiled kernels named like neoscryptvliwpBeaverCreekgw128l8.bin
